Welcome to the Lambton Kent District School Board Summer Learning Program! We are so excited to have your child as a part of the program. As you may be aware, they were nominated by their school team to participate in the program because they have shown themselves to be hard workers committed to doing their best. Over the three weeks together, your child's teacher will be working to help them to develop strategies and skills that will help them to experience greater success in mathematics or literacy.
The LKDSB has offered the Summer Learning Program for several years, and each year has experienced tremendous success! Three weeks of targeted instruction and support each year has had a significant impact of student mindset and achievement moving forward.
This year we have two face-to-face sites; these are taking place at P.E. McGibbon and Queen Elizabeth Chatham with a Primary Literacy and a Junior Numeracy Camp. Additionally, we have an on-line Camp Franco Fun summer learning camp.
We can't wait to embark on this years journey with you and your child!
The Summer Learning Program runs Monday to Friday from July 4th - 21st from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The morning will be literacy or numeracy instruction. Recreation programming will happen every afternoon following lunch. Daily attendance is essential, as we build on skills developed each day.
During the program you will be invited to attend a parent session. Information around this will be shared as it becomes available.
Our parent sessions have always been a great way for parents to gain more insight into how they can support their child moving forward. We look forward to seeing you!
There are so many opportunities to support your child in developing their mathematical skills everyday! Learning math isn't about worksheets and speed; children are learning about math as they explore, play and build!
This website will provide information about the strategies your child uses as they develop the ability to solve problems quickly and correctly. As well, you will find lots of ideas for activities that you can provide to help your child become a stronger math student.
The most important thing to consider; have fun! When children "feel bad" or think about math negatively it makes it harder for them to learn. You can help by showing your child that math can be fun!
