Hello Rosedale Families!
It was a great week here at Rosedale, and we had a beautiful, sunny day to finish it off. Earlier this week, we had our Raptor Cart shopping day. 62 students bought a ticket to the STEM party, which was a new record for our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) parties! The kids love spending extra time with Mr. Tedesco! The younger students were able to have their party on Thursday. The older students will have theirs next week.
Speaking of next week, we will be kicking off March is Reading Month on Monday. Our theme this year is "Reading is Out of This World," and we have several fun activities planned for the students. The goal for March is Reading Month is to keep building the love for reading we want all kids to have.
Have a great weekend. Thank you for all of your support!
Best Regards,
Ben Hillard

One thing we are working to improve at Rosedale is our attendance. We know it has been a difficult winter with illnesses, and we definitely want kids and adults to stay home when they're sick. Any other time, we want them here!
Coming to school each day provides opportunities to build routines, connect to friends and teachers, and engage in learning. Students with excessive absences tend to have more anxiety about school because they feel behind or unsure about what's happening in the classroom.
As you can see on the graphic, coming late and leaving early also impacts learning. Please let us know what we can do to help make sure your child is here at school for the entire day, every day!
We had a blast kicking off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge at Rosedale Elementary School! With help from this year’s Heart Heroes, we’re learning all about keeping our hearts healthy through movement, kindness, rest, and knowing when to ask for help.
Visit this link or download the AHA Schools app to join the fun. Bonus: Students get a free wristband just for signing up!
Any student that brings a correct answer to the monthly challenge question will receive a Raptor Recognition ticket (Raptor Cash) for grit and perseverance!
February Challenge Question: Dog Show
At a dog show, there are some people standing with their dogs. If there are 44 legs and 34 eyes at the dog show, how many people and how many dogs are present? (All the people and all the dogs at the show have the normal number of eyes and legs.)
December/January Challenge Question: Chipmunks
As winter approaches, chipmunks begin to gather nuts for the season. Each nut is in a shell. Unfortunately, one out of every eight nutshells is hollow in this particular area. The chipmunks can’t tell which ones have nuts and which are empty!
If a chipmunk collected 40 nutshells this weekend, how many nuts did they save for the winter (remember: one out of every eight nutshells is hollow)?
December/January Solution: Since it takes 5 groups of 8 to make 40, we know that there will be 5 empty shells. Therefore the chipmunk collected 35 nuts for the winter.

Please make sure everyone who drops off or picks up your child knows and understands this document.
Early check-out/pick-up: Early office checkout will end each day at 3:45. If you come after this time, you will need to follow the end of day dismissal procedures. The end of each day has a lot of activity, and it is difficult to communicate quickly with teachers when students are packing up for the day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.
Birthday Treats: If you are sending in treats for your child's birthday or another special occasion, please do not send food items. You are welcome to send in other little trinkets or prizes for the class, but we will not be able to pass out food. There are many allergies in elementary schools and this rule helps to keep all of our kids safe. Thank you for your help.
