Daily Grades
Collaborative Quizzes: Students will work together in assigned groups to answer questions or create written responses to a question or prompt.
Homework Assignments: Students will teach others in their group about a work of art.
Hands-on Assignments: Students will, on occasion, create hands-on projects to further their understanding of process and craft.
Major Grades
Interactive Notebooks/Blogs: (Students will turn these in quarterly.)
Out-of-Class Individualized Assignments (Students will be required to create handwritten responses to free-response questions throughout the year. Most of these free-response questions will originate from previous AP exams. Other types of out-of-class individualized assignments may be given.)
Individualized Assessments (Students will individually answer multiple-choice questions or create written responses to a question or prompt. This year, individualized assessments will be shorter and given in greater quantities.)
Makeups
Daily Grades (Students do not need to make up assigned daily work. Students, however,
will receive a zero if the absence is unexcused. If excused, the student will be exempted
from this requirement.)
Major Grades (Students must makeup individualized assessments. Questions on makeup individualized assessments are likely to differ from those given in class. These are given only after school VIA an appointment through academic recovery. A student must have an excused absence to makeup an individualized assessment.)
Late Work
Daily Grades: (Students cannot turn in daily grades late. If a student hasn’t completed his/her homework, the score recorded will be a zero. A homework assignment involves the activity of teaching others, not just filling out a notebook. Therefore, the activity must occur on the day the homework was assigned so that we can stick to the assigned schedule.)
Interactive Notebooks and Out-of-Class Individual Assignments: If students are absent on a day when major assignments are due, the work is due on the first day of class thereafter that the student attends. If assignments are missing or incomplete on the day due, the student’s grade will be deducted 10 points for each school day the assignment is late.
Optional Work
Daily Grades (Students can come in after/before school to take a collaborative quiz and to discuss the results with the teacher and one another. These will be announced periodically and can help to raise the student’s daily grade. If the score lowers the daily grade, however, it will not be counted.)
Major Grades : Students are given the opportunity to raise their major grade each nine weeks with an optional assignment that may involve creating a work of art or writing a paper.
