The TYPE of assessment is another key factor when grading in P.E.
Historically, testing in Physical Education was athletic performance-based and results driven. Now that we have a greater understanding of the learning process, an assessment doesn't have to be "how many" or "How Fast" to be valid. Types of assessments that can be meaningful and measurable can include:
Project-based: allows for creativity and differentiation while still showing an understanding Example in yoga
Peer Assessments: being able to coach/ assess another person demonstrates mastery of concept Example in Yoga
Skill cues: performing the root of the skill regardless of result. Think "process over Product" Example in Softball
Cognitive: written/digital format tests provide a way for students to prove knowledge of rules, terms, etc. Example in Golf
ALWAYS give fair notice prior to a test, and explain the type, length, and value. Post resources and be available for questions
