Application ProCedureS

If your child is applying for the Elementary School Gifted and Talented Program for the Visual Arts, he/she is required to:


  1. Create one original drawing to submit with his or her application. The original work must be from direct observation as per the information on the Instructions Tab above. Drawings must be created by the student applying. Drawings created in school, created under the assistance of a private art teacher, or created in a private art class will not be accepted. This portion of the application will be submitted electronically. Additional details on how to do so can be found under the More Tab - Submit Application.


  1. An in class observational drawing will be assessed and scored by an Art Teacher. More details about this will be forthcoming after May 31, 2022.

In-person test: this test will be given and will be proctored by an Art Teacher. It will be the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation to school for the school testing. All materials will be provided by the school. An Art Teacher will coordinate the in-person test, after May 31, 2022. You will be informed by email.

The in-person test has two parts:

a. Still Life Drawing in pencil to assess technical drawing skills.

b. The Torrance Test of Creativity; this test is used to assess imagination, ingenuity, and inventiveness.

Please understand that the program is highly selective, and the results of the selection process are final.
