Middle School Gifted and Talented Art Program Application Packet
2026-2027
Dear Parent,
This letter is to inform you that Livingston Public Schools offers a Gifted and Talented Art Program for middle school students. The Middle School Gifted and Talented Art Program is designed to give students who qualify for admission the opportunity to further develop their creative abilities and artistic skills.
Students who apply for this program must undergo a rigorous and highly selective screening process. Students who are selected for this program are expected to keep up with their regular schoolwork, in addition to completing assignments and artwork that are a part of this program. Students will also be expected to complete weekly homework assignments as part of this program.
STUDENTS ALREADY ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM DO NOT NEED TO RE-APPPLY.
Please be advised that instruction in GT Art and GT Music meets before school, once a week. Parents of students accepted into the program will be provided with a schedule and additional details from their Art Teacher in October.
Parents will be responsible for transportation for their students to this before school program.
Students who are identified as being gifted in the Visual Arts typically exhibit several or all of the following characteristics:
The student exhibits superior ability in expressing ideas visually and can create artworks using drawing and a variety of mediums.
The student possesses a high curiosity level and active imagination.
The student seeks challenging experiences and is goal-oriented with high personal standards.
The student is capable of original thinking and develops unique, unconventional solutions to artistic problems.
The student responds with ease and enthusiasm to creating artwork.
The student works well independently, with concentration and focus, for long periods of time.
If you have a child who exhibits several or all of these characteristics and would like them to be considered for the program, please read and review each tab on the top of this web page.
All completed applications must be received no later than Friday, September 25, 2026.
An Art Teacher will email you regarding the in-person test, which will occur the week of October 5, 2026.
Sincerely,
Mara Rubin
