Application ProCedureS

If your child is applying for the Middle School Gifted and Talented Program for the Visual Arts, he/she is required to:

  1. Create one original drawing to submit with his or her application. The original work must be from direct observation as per the information on the Instructions Tab above. Drawings must be created by the student applying. Drawings created in school, created under the assistance of a private art teacher, or created in a private art class will not be accepted. This portion of the application will be submitted electronically. Additional details on how to do so can be found under the Submit Application Tab.

  1. An in class observational drawing will be assessed and scored by an Art Teacher once we physically return to school.

In-person test: this test will be given by an Art Teacher. It will be the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation to school for the before school testing. All materials will be provided by the school. We are currently exploring ways that this can take place. Details regarding this, will be provided when available.

The in-person test has two parts:

a. Still Life drawing in pencil to assess technical drawing skills.

b. The Torrance Test of Creativity; this test is used to assess imagination,

ingenuity, and inventiveness.

Please understand that the program is highly selective, and the results of the selection process are final.
