Welcome!

Greetings and Directions:

Last year, our Earth Science Symposium day involved this website, a few nervous Earth Science teachers, technology specialists, and over 100 anxious students and parents spread out across Central New York in their homes, at sporting events, and on vacation. Everyone was remote and no one was in the school building.

It worked. It was successful...but...it was not what we intended when we designed the Symposium process.

Now that we are all back in person and live, after a two-year pause, we are looking forward to seeing everyone in the building and having the community watch our young scientists give timely, interesting, informative, and mind-blowing presentations. This year's Symposium will involve the work of approximately 70 students, more than 50 judges and volunteers, and two Liverpool High School Earth Science teachers.

*Special thanks to Tim Patterson for website design! Also, thank you to this years Honors Earth Science teachers: Mr. Calderwood, and Mr. Williams.

How to use this site:

Click on the "Schedule of Presentations" button at the top of this page to view a schedule with student names, room assignments, and scheduled presentation times. In order to preview a student's presentation, simply click on the room to which that student has been assigned. This will bring you to a page containing the student's article (just click on the title), slideshow, and poster for you to view.

Browse the symposium rooms to look for topics of interest to you. The students' posters are located in the right-hand column within each "room". Click the upper-right hand corner of any poster you wish to enlarge for further viewing.

We are on a tight, synchronized schedule. Please arrive in the room of any presentation that you attend AT LEAST 1 minute prior to the presentation's start time.

Finally, here is a re-cap of the symposium's goals:

1. Provide over 70 LHS 9th-grade students with the chance to explore a geoscience topic and current scientific research.

2. To have those students practice reading, writing, and public speaking at a collegiate level.

3. Give our students an opportunity to participate in an event that models a professional conference.

4. To recognize the outstanding efforts and high-quality work exhibited by our students.

5. To invite community members to participate in and support this premier educational event including judges and hundreds of parents and visitors.
