It's okay! Our first lessons will be all about that. There are only a few things to learn and I'll make sure everyone feels comfortable using it before I give real assignments. There are videos to watch on our home page too.
I don't expect any of my students to type fast. We'll all be typing more this year and will naturally get better at it. You'll be able to write and record your ideas too. I'll show you how to use the microphone with the keyboard, that's called voice to text. It's a neat feature to use when you want to type a lot of words.
Just like in first grade, we will have snack and lunch breaks. It's okay to keep water near you to stay hydrated but you won't be able to eat until the actual break times. Be sure to eat breakfast before you start the school day!
We'll have a lunch recess and an afternoon break.
I'll let you know which groups you're in. You may not stay in the same group all the time but we'll keep groups together for a least a few weeks at a time. Most of our reading will be done as a whole group.
Now that you know how to read it is important to practice. Read each night for at least 15 minutes. One night read silently, the next night read aloud. Be sure to choose texts that aren't too easy or too hard. Mix it up! Read both fiction and nonfiction. Talk to someone at home about what you are reading or start a book club in your house or with friends!
