Around 2.8 million dogs are placed in shelters across the United States every year. Many of them are mutts and find themselves wagging their tails at every stranger who passes just for a purebred to be chosen in their place. We walk right by them, not even glancing at their name, while they observe our every steps, movement, and language.
Many of us choose to steer clear of mixed breeds because of uncertainty. Why be so afraid of what is unknown about an animal when they repeatedly prove to us they are much more than their genetic makeups?
Every day, they show us that the strongest love doesn’t need words to be felt, but rather delivered through actions.
These pups will never be able to receive the apology that their hearts deserve, but each of us can help make a lasting difference through small gestures at a time. All it takes is one to change the outcome of many.
