Literacy Matters Abbotsford is Abbotsford’s community literacy network. This is a membership of many organizations and programs including the Fraser Valley Regional Library, Abbotsford Community Services, University of the Fraser Valley, and Abbotsford School District to name a few. Literacy Matters Abbotsford is funded by Decoda, through the Ministry of Education (see Decoda for more information). The goal of Literacy Matters Abbotsford is to connect literacy services to individuals; to connect services to each other; and to address the literacy gaps in Abbotsford.

Upcoming Events

Aboriginal Day in Abbotsford, June 21, 2017: Join us at Thunderbird Memorial Square - in front of Clearbrook Library - for the 2nd Annual Aboriginal Day in Abbotsford. This event will run from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to this free celebration of Aboriginal heritage.For more information click here.

Fortis Writing Contest: Saving energy is awesome! How do you conserve gas energy? Do you wear sweaters and socks when it is cold? Turn off the tap after washing your hands? Tell us how you save enery at home, for a chance to have your story and artwork publish! See the poster for more information. Download the book template here or pick one up at the Clearbrook or Abbotsford Library. This chance to have your story and artwork published is open to children up to age 12.

Fundamental English Class for Adults: Adults looking to upgrade their English skills can attend an information session at Mamele'awt Aboriginal Centre July 4, 5, 2017. Please see the attached poster for more information. These classes will start September 2017. This class is open to adults that are Canadian citizens and landed immigrants. 3rd Annual Trivia Challenge, September 27, 2017: Help celebrate Literacy Month - bring your team of "Trivia Experts" to join the fun! The challenge will be held at the Phoenix Lounge, 6:30 - 9:00 pm. More information to follow.

APALS - Aboriginal Parents as Literacy Supporters, May 24, 2017: Parents are invited to bring their children ages birth to 6 years old. Our next session is May 24, 2017 from 5:00 - 6:45 pm at the Community Aboriginal Centre. For more information click here.
