The VCT flooring was started this week. The telecommunications room, hallway and breakout area on the second floor have been completed. Painting of the interior door jambs has begun. Once the VCT has been installed, then final coat of paint can be done. The drain pipes from the trench drains is being installed. Once they are approved the concrete floor can be done.
The masons were back at the fire school this week. The interior block walls on the first are almost complete. The thermal tiles have been started on the second and third floor. Once they are installed, then the interior block walls can be done those floors. The metals doors were started this week. The interior stairs from the second floor to the third floor were poured this week. The braces are still in p-lace until the concrete has cured enough.
The remaining work on the training tower will take some time. Switchback concrete stairs are used to ascend the tower. When each stair component is poured the stairs below are used to brace the forms. This means that the stairs below need to be cured before the next set of stairs can be poured. The two section of stairs from the first to second floors are done. The first section of the second to third floor stairs were poured on Friday.
Propane fired training props were included in the design of the new facility. The car and trailer were delivered this week. The gas grill, stove, split-flange and pressurized vessel props were delivered previously. The trailer will allow the fire school to move the props off site classes.
Site work continues. The remaining utilities are being installed in the upper part (training grounds) of the facility. Materials that are no longer needed on site are being removed. Grading still continues in preparation of the paving and additional concrete. The propane prop training area will be concrete, as will the areas around the burn building and training tower. There is at least one more sidewalk to be poured.
