The above ceiling inspections have been completed and the go ahead was given to install the ceiling pads. All of the pads were installed this week. Next week they will start the VCT flooring. Some prep work has already begun on the second floor. Commissioning of the building should begin in the next few weeks. The trench drains in the apparatus bays have finally been approved. Concrete was poured around each of the drains. Final utilities that will be under the bay floor are being installed. Once that is compete they can grade and pour the floor.
The masons were not on the site this week. There is still some third floor exterior block walls to install. After that they can start on the interior walls. Thermal protection panels have been installed on the first floor. They have started the second floor. The backer boards are about half done on the second floor. next will come the thermal tiles. The exterior stairs on the north side of the building were installed this week. It looks like they still have some work to finish them.
The slow process of constructing the stairs in the training tower has begun. The stairs have been poured up to the second floor. It will take two to three weeks to get the stairs constructed all the way to the fifth floor. The interior walls on the second floor were installed as they built the tower. There are two walls on the second floor that were designed to allow firefighter to practice wall breaches and low-profile maneuvers. The scaffolding and bracing has been removed on all but the south side. The overhangs at the fourth floor on the north side and the roof level on the south side are more visible.
Grading continues to be done in anticipation of the paving. Most of the light poles have been installed except the area which will be the training grounds. Underground utilities in that area are still being installed. The first of three hydrants was installed this week. This hydrant will be closest to the main building and could be used for fire protection. Torrington does not use standard threads, so this hydrant has their threads. An adapter will be on site in case it is used for training by other than Torrington departments. The sidewalk on the west side of the classroom/administration building is being prepared for concrete. The side walk leads to the west entrance and to the double doors into the SCBA maintenance room. Grass areas are starting to be prepared.
