Update June 2, 2018

Classroom/Administration Building

Tiling work has continued over the last couple of weeks. The men's and women's restrooms on the first floor have been tiled and the fixtures are installed. They are now working on the locker rooms. The men's locker room has been tiled and they are now working on the women's locker room. Once the tiling has been completed, then they can install the fixtures. Next up for tiling is the kitchen.

Interior doors were being hung last week. Many have been installed including hardware.

Burn Building

The roof on the burn building was poured last week. The only concrete work left on the burn building is the stairs. The masons have most of the block work completed on the first floor and have a good start on the second floor. The panels to line the burn rooms arrived last week and the crew that will install them is in route from Texas.

Training Tower

The masons continue to go upward on the training tower. The fifth floor exterior walls are up and the forms will be started this week for the concrete roof. The masons still have some work to do on each floor to meet our needs for training props. The concrete stairs will also need to be formed and poured.

Extrication and Hazardous Materials Training Area

The fire school included in the plans an area to conduct Vehicle extrication training. The are will include guard rails on one side and jersey barriers on the other. We will have the ability to mount a utility pole to simulate an accident into a pole. The area will also include provision for hazardous materials training. This will include a storm drain (local, does not actually drain) that can be used to control hazardous run-off.

Rehabilitation Shelter

A rehabilitation shelter was included in the plan. This will allow an area for students and instructors to cool down, re-hydrate and participate in medical screening. A parking space will be marked for an ambulance. The shelter may be used for other purposes like an outdoors classroom and class gatherings. The south end of the structure has a section of wall which will have a white board mounted. There will be a water fountain at the shelter.

Rope Rescue Props

The plans called for numerous props to conduct rope rescue. Both the training tower and burn building have multiple anchor points at multiple levels. This includes the capability of constructing a high-line between the two structures. Low-angle rescue is a skill needed by all firefighters. An area is being constructed for this purpose. The upper area will have a guard rail that can be used for an anchor. The lower area has an area where a vehicle can be positioned. The area in between will be an untouched slope.

Water Supply

A vertical turbine pump will be used to provide water supply. There will be three fire hydrants on the facility for training purposes. One of the hydrants will have the steamer connection utilized by the Torrington Fire Department and will be available for fire protections well as training. The water tank will have a manhole to allow for drafting operations. Additionally the set-up sill allow for fire pump testing.

Bollards

The driveway and parking area were designed so provide for tanker shuttle operations. To protect the facility numerous bollards are being installed.
