The concrete floor for the apparatus bays was poured this week on Friday. It was still giving off some good heat Saturday when I was there. The last of the ceramic tile was installed in the front lobby. It needs to be grouted. VCT needs to be installed in the elevator room. They also need to tie the hall VCT into the lobby ceramic. The rest of the floors will be tile. They are waiting for the pavement to be done before installing the tile so as not to risk getting it soiled. Some of the finishing touches are being done. The marker boards have been installed in the classrooms. The restroom partitions were also started.
The thermal lining has been completed on the first and third floors. They will be working on finishing the second floor next week. The fire brick for the floor is next up. The mason continue to work on the interior walls. Most of the fire place/chimney prop has been completed. The stairs are all in place. Scuppers, doors and shutters are all being installed. Railings for the roof areas and stairs should be started in the near future.
The stairs are completed through the four and half floors. Only one section of stairs left which should be poured this Wednesday. As with the burn building the shutters and scuppers are being installed. Railings will be installed soon.
Site work continues with most of the work being done in the training ground areas. Friday they were working on installing the hydrant loop. Grading and site clean-up continues as they prepare for paving. The construction trailers are gone. They have set-up offices within the classroom/administration building. The final sidewalk was finished. The burn building and training tower will have 10 feet of concrete around the buildings. There will a 70 feet by 80 feet concrete pad for other training.
We are in the process of scheduling a grand opening for this fall. We will be having fall classes at our new facility. The classes may have to meet at a local fire station for the first couple of weeks, but we are hoping won't be needed. We are looking to have a ribbon cutting the first week of September. A grand opening will be held later in the month or beginning of October. The grand opening will give local firefighters a chance to wee our new facility and all of the feature we have built in. The grand opening will be open to the public. We are hoping the new facility will be utilized by other agencies.
