It is getting down to finish work and commissioning of the building. Painting is being done. I was not able to go to the first floor today as the stairs had been recently painted. The gear lockers were installed in the hallway to the apparatus bays. The benches will be installed next week. Work continues in the apparatus bays.
Work continues on the thermal lining in the burn building. The ceiling and wall tiles have all been installed. The bricks on the first and third floors are done. The second floor has been started. More railings have been installed on the roofs. More railing need to be installed on the roof and then the stairs. A slab on the third floor was poured which is part of the overhaul prop.
More of the rope anchors were installed this past week. The fire school designed in numerous anchors points for conducting rope training. On the third, fourth and fifth floors there are anchors in the ceiling aligned with windows. Additional anchors will be on the roof. Railings have not yet been started in the tower. They will likely be started once the burn building railings are completed.
Work on the training grounds is ongoing. A pad was poured Wednesday for 1,000 gallon propane tank which will be used for the gas-fired training props. A 70' X 70' area is being prepared for concrete. This area will be used for vehicle extrication, gas-fired props, hazardous materials and extinguisher training. The driveway leading into the fire school, the general parking area, handicapped parking, instructor parking and roadway around the back of the classroom/administrative building have been prepared for paving. A binder coat will be installed Monday. The construction manager has been hesitant to install carpeting without pavement. He does not want new carpet to be soiled. With paving being done Monday the carpeting can begin later next week.
