Water scarcity notes
Water scarcity is the lack of enough available water to meet the demand of the amount of water being used in a given region. Economic water scarcity is the lack of planning and presence of water infrastructure, meaning people cannot access water.
The Reasons for Water Scarcity
Reason 1: Latitude -determines rainfall and heat which leads to evaporation.
Reason 2: Altitude - determines where life and rainfall can exist.
Reason 3: Ocean Currents - determine rainfall.
Reason 4: Distance from the sea - inland regions receive less rainfall because they are further away from the ocean.
Reason 5: Population - overpopulation causes more water to be used than what can be supplied.
Reason 6: Topography - the shape of the land determines where water travels.
These reasons combine and can cause long periods of drought.
