SAMR is a framework designed to help educators integrate technology into quality teaching practice for improved student outcomes. The framework features a continuum which supports and enables teachers to design, develop, and evaluate digital learning experiences. SAMR can be used as a framework to help integrate technology, content and pedagogy in the blended learning environment.
The SAMR framework is not a hierarchy. The different elements function as a continuum that offers different opportunities for the design of learning experiences. The teacher needs to consider the purpose of the lesson and select the correct pedagogical tool that enables students to meaningfully engage with the learning intentions and demonstrate the success criteria. Using the SAMR framework helps teachers to consider how technology may be used to transform learning through engaging students in rich tasks in which significant learning improvements are more likely to occur.
