UAC (NSW) and QTAC (Queensland) Updates
QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre)
The QTAC team has been working hard to wrap up the final offers for Semester 1, and we are excited to share the following offer statistics with you.
As of 8 February:
49,338 QTAC applicants have received an offer for a 2023 Semester 1 course from one of our Queensland institutions.
29,109 of our 2022 Year 12 students are among those prospective higher education students.
Total offers for Semester 1 are down by 5.1% from the 2022 admissions year. The biggest decrease is seen in non-Year 12 offers, reflecting the strong employment market.
UAC Course Compass
If your Year 12 students need help deciding which uni course to apply for, direct them to Course Compass. After they answer a few quick questions about their HSC subjects, Course Compass will display fields of study offered to recent applicants just like them. They can then drill down to institutions offering courses that might suit them.
ATAR Compass
UAC's new tool, ATAR Compass, estimates a student’s ATAR using scaling statistics from the past five years. Students select their HSC courses and their estimated HSC marks to receive an estimated ATAR, which they can use as a guide to make decisions about their future study options. The tool will also indicate if a student’s subject choices make them eligible for an ATAR.
Early offers to Year 12 students
While the ATAR is still the main selection tool used by most unis, there are other ways for students to show that they’re ready to succeed at tertiary study. This means they may be able to receive an offer to university before ATARs are released.
Offers made through UAC
Because we have several offer rounds in the first half of the year, many Year 12 students ask us if they can receive an offer now. The short answer is 'no': the first UAC offers to Year 12 students will be made to Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) applicants on 10 November 2023. Offers made then are not based on HSC results and ATARs. Instead, they are based on other criteria like Year 11 results and the school's rating of the student.
Before November offers are made to applicants who are not in Year 12 this year and already have a qualification we can assess. They're often applying to start a course in semester 2.
Most UAC offers to Year 12 students are made in late December, after the release of ATARs.
Offers directly from the institutions
In addition to submitting an SRS application, Year 12 students can apply for an early offer directly to individual institutions. Each institution has different application and offer dates. All the details are on our website.

Educational Access Scheme
Some great news for students who are applying under the disadvantage code P01A: disability or long-term medical condition. If a student has applied for provisions through NESA, then the student will only have to upload the NESA documents, which must include the NESA letter of approval for provisions and an applicant statement.
This means the student will not need to provide a medical impact statement or educational impact statement. Only students who have not applied for NESA provisions or haven't been granted provisions will need to upload the medical impact statement and educational impact statement for this disadvantage type.
Why apply through UAC?
We know that students are unsure about whether they should apply directly to an institution or through UAC, and to increase their chances many are doing both. Not all institutions accept direct applications from Year 12 students but it’s important for students considering a direct application to remember the following:
A UAC application gives students five course preferences to choose; they don’t have to apply five times to five different institutions.
Having a UAC application enables students to apply for Access and early entry schemes: EAS, SRS and Equity Scholarships.
Having a UAC application as well as a direct application will give students more chance of securing an offer, so long as they don't enter the same preferences in both applications.
The UAC Guide
The UAC Guide will be arriving at schools from the beginning of Term 2.
The Guide contains everything Year 12 students – both domestic and international – need to know about applying for uni in 2025 in one handy publication. Comprehensive course descriptions can be found on UAC’s website. Course details can change throughout the year so encourage your students to check back regularly.
Open days
For an up-close experience of university life, encourage your students to attend a uni open day. Check back regularly for updates.
