SCONLI HISTORY
The idea of students in India organising a linguistics conference was initiated by Tanmoy Bhattacharya of the Department of Linguistics, University of Delhi, and a few research students, in 2002. The first edition was held in then CIEFL, now EFLU, Hyderabad, in 2006 with funding from Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore. SCONLI (Students’ CONference of Linguistics in India) has now successfully run 14 editions so far and is likely to continue for a long time. The conference continues to encourage studies which uncover new findings and scientifically report/ analyse their relevance to the field of Linguistics. In its 15th round, the conference is coming back home, so to speak!
