My name is Maufinda Siah, Howard. I was born and raised in the small West African nation of Liberia, where I completed both my primary and secondary education. I will graduate on May 3, 2025, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, emphasizing health and medicine from Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky.
I come from a close-knit family that has shaped much of who I am. My parents are my mentors, and my younger sister is a constant source of joy. I especially look up to my father, whose wisdom and guidance—often taught through life’s everyday moments—have deeply influenced the values I hold today. Whether through words or lessons hidden in my own mistakes, he’s reminded me of the importance of self-reliance and resilience in a world that doesn’t wait for anyone. As a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian, my faith plays a meaningful role in guiding my life and choices.
A year ago, my main interests might have been music and sleep—both of which I still enjoy—but my time at Lindsey Wilson College has expanded my world. I've grown passionate about personal development, often diving into books that focus on self-growth and emotional intelligence. I’m fascinated by fashion, especially the process behind creating clothes and the movement toward sustainability. I also enjoy watching TED Talks and podcasts centered on mental and physical wellness, fulfillment, and intentional living.
More recently, I’ve discovered a love for art and photography. The creative freedom and expressive possibilities they offer continue to inspire me. I also cherish meaningful conversations with friends, family, and former classmates about life, growth, and our college experiences. I find great joy in giving advice, listening deeply, and helping others navigate their challenges.
Tutoring and mentoring have become another passion of mine. Helping peers understand complex concepts not only reinforces my learning but allows me to contribute to their academic growth—a role I consider both humbling and deeply rewarding.
My favorite place in the world is the beach. The ocean brings me peace, clarity, and a profound sense of awe. I dream of one day building my home by the water, surrounded by nature. I also find serenity in caring for plants—I’m currently a proud plant mom to seven: two pathos, a ZZ plant, a peace lily, a bonsai tree, a Chinese money plant, and a monstera.
I would describe myself as insightful, principled, passionate, altruistic, and creative. At the same time, I recognize areas where I’m still growing: I can be slow to open up, perfectionistic, resistant to the ordinary, and sometimes prone to burnout. But I believe that self-awareness and continuous reflection are essential steps on the path to becoming who we’re meant to be.
