PROJECT OVERVIEW

PROJECT SCOPE

The Project Scope includes a New Early Childhood Center for Grades Preschool through 1st Grade as well as the redesign of our existing High School Sports fields. This new building will house all Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade Students in the District. This will allow for room at each Elementary Building to bring 5th grade back to the Elementary setting and make space at the Middle School. At this time the Middle School and Elementary schools are significantly overcrowded and per NJDOE calculations, we have over 800 "unhoused" students out of our total enrollment of approximately 3,000 students. Please visit the Facility Task Force Page to see our full presentations to learn more about the importance of this project to solve the District space and capacity issues.

The field redesign is necessary in the project as the new building will be located on our existing soccer and field hockey fields. The athletic field portion of the project will include turfing the existing football field and designing one additional sports field adjacent to the football stadium. This will allow for more repetitive use of the football field for all sports teams as well as offer a second field for our students to use during Physical Education classes and on days when multiple teams will play at Home.

New Building Design & PROCESS

The Design process included tours of other elementary school buildings and consultation with both Building Level and Central Administration to incorporate all necessary educational spaces. The Architectural Team then developed a detailed Educational Specification Report that was summitted to the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) as part of our project submission. The NJDOE Department of Facilities is currently reviewing our project. Their review includes an assessment of all spaces in our existing buildings to establish our space constraints as well as a review of the new building design to verify that it will adequately address our needs. The NJDOE Department of Facilities has a prescribed building code that outlines minimum requirements for all educational spaces. For example, per the NJDOE, all Preschool spaces must provide a minimum of 950 square feet and have a bathroom in the classroom.
