Mrs. Jennifer Smith, M.Ed.
Welcome to G&T!
During the 25-26 School Year, our Gifted and Talented program at the Elementary level utilizes both push-in and pull-out models of delivery. Our push in program focused mainly on Math and Science. The following applies to our pull-out program:
Second grade students work on deductive, inventive and evaluative thinking challenges individually and in groups
Third grade students use "Makey-Makey" circuit boards and learn about conductivity and current.
Fourth grade students use "LittleBits" kits, which is also circuitry with a heavy focus on the design process.
Fifth grade students use hands-on STEM kits with a focus on engineering
Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 build "challenges" in groups, then reflect upon their work in writing in order to change or improve upon what they build.
Pictured below are some student activities!
Second Grade students were given random nouns and verbs and asked to create a new invention using just those two words. Pictured above is a "Skyscraper Squeezer". Students then had to create a slide show describing how their invention works and then doing some persuasive writing to convince others to buy it!
Fourth Grade students putting together various circuit parts from their circuitry kits. They then have to document their findings in Google Slides. Later in the year they create their own inventions using parts from the kit
