Classes
English Language Arts
The ELA classes will allow students to enhance their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. The Accelerated Reader program is promoted to encourage students to read at school and at home. Each trimester, students are taught a different writing style to further develop both their academic language and creativity. Students will also be able to grow as critical thinkers as they engage in small group and class discussions.
Study Skills
The 6th Grade Study Skills class is designed to provide students with additional time to digest and learn new concepts covered in all of their classes. For some students, this may look like additional time to work on homework while for others it will include completing activities to help strengthen areas of need. Organization, note taking, and accountability are among the skills that students will learn in this class.
Computers
Students are introduced to the functions of computers as they learn about Google programs, work to improve their typing skills, and develop a sense of Internet safety. This class will also emphasize coding and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) projects to promote creativity and problem solving skills. Throughout the school year, students will have hands on experiences with technology while working with robots and learning about real life applications of programs they are already familiar with.
