From The Desk Of Principal Rob Pouch
We need your support now more then ever! LMS continues to see an increase in students who are chronically absent. We understand some of this has a correlation to the COVID pandemic. However, it is essential we have your student in attendance on a daily basis. We continue to work with the Genesee Intermediate School Truancy Department and also the Genesee Court Systems to offer as much support and intervention as we can to assist with getting students in school on a daily basis. When in attendance, we need to make certain students are engaged in learning. Currently, over 30% of our students have a failing grade. As a community, we need to continue to remind our students the value of education and the important role education plays in their social, emotional and academic growth. It is vital you have conversations nightly with your student(s) about classwork, homework and upcoming assignments/tests that might be due. Our staff is doing everything they can to collect student work. We have added tutoring after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to this, we are assigning students who have missing work to a task completion room during their exploratory class. We appreciate any support you can provide with these concerns.
Please continue to keep your student home if they are sick. If your student is demonstrating symptoms/warning signs of COVID, we will be following the Genesee County Health Departments Guidelines. Please note, if your student has the symptoms below, your student will be quarantined for 10 days from the onset of symptoms or until a COVID test is negative or DR. provides an alternative diagnosis.
One of the following: Cough, shortness of breath, fever, loss of taste/smell.
Two of the following: Chills, sweating, sore throat, muscle pain/body aches, new onset of headache, Diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, congestion or runny nose.
If your student has any of these symptoms the night before school, keep them home, monitor closely and call the main office. Please do not...give your student fever reducing medicine and send them to school! If you are giving them medicine, they are sick, and need to stay home! If your student tests positive for COVID at any time, please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or contact the LMS main office 810-591-0710.
M-Step & PSAT Update
We continue to move forward with planning for the M-Step and PSAT assessment this spring. Please note, at anytime between now and the test dates, the state could adjust MStep expectations. The noted dates below will be the test dates for face to face and virtual students. Virtual students will have to come into the building on their assigned testing date. The tentative test dates are below:
April 13: PSAT 8, April 20: Science M-Step, April 22: Social Studies M-Step
April 27: ELA M-Step, April 29: Math M-Step
May 4: ELA M-Step, May 6: Math M-Step
Parent Drop Off
We have seen an increase in the volume of students getting dropped off in the morning. We ask that you please release your student from the vehicle as soon as you enter the drop off location. We understand parents have been waiting until 7:15am, when the doors open, to release their students. However, this causes the line to extend past Lobdell Road. We will allow students to wait in the airlock or hallway area by the doors until they can report to their class at 7:15am. This should help with the flow of traffic.
Believe it or not, we are currently in the planning phases for the 2021-2022 school year. If your student is currently in 6th or 7th grade and is interested in LMS Band or Spanish I for the 21-22 school year, please take a few seconds and complete the Google Form below. We ask that you have this completed by March 19th. There is also a document below that provides more details on LMS band. Please contact Mr. Rabenold with any further band related questions.
We always enjoying celebrating the success of the students who made the LMS semester one honor roll. Although the certificate presentation looked a little different this year, we still had the opportunity to catch some student smiles.
After School Tutoring
LMS is offering tutoring after school from 2:15pm-3:10pm. We will have LMS staff members available during this time slot to work with students who might need additional support or help completing missing work. In the event students have several failing grades or attendance issues, we will be assigning students to after school tutoring twice a week. This is a great opportunity for students to get extra assistance. Students who are interested will report to the media center. There is no need to register, this is a drop in service.
LMS Counseling department Update
We continue to work our way through the EDP process at LMS. The last task at hand, is completing our 8th grade EDP's. All 8th grade students, face to face and remote, need to complete an EDP. Mr. Allessie and Mrs. McBride will be working on completing the EDP's with the face to face 8th grade students over the next several weeks in their social studies class. All virtual 8th grade students need to complete their EDP via Google Classroom. Virtual students should have access to this in their Google Classroom.
Please note, the LMS EDP process meets the requirements established by the State of Michigan and the Genesee Intermediate School District. Currently, we are still required to adhere to all established EDP mandates.
