With the Blueprint in hand, we read the text from our core curriculum. This video is an example of the notes I made as I read this text using the questions in the Blueprint as a guide. You'll hear my thinking about places in the text where students might need support in relation to the Language Comprehension strands of The Reading Rope.
After reading the text and considering our notes about its demands, we turn to our curriculum resources. What will be covered and provided in the lessons and supplemental curriculum materials that will help us plan supportive lessons for our students' needs? Where can we find evidence of the Blueprint and Language Comprehension strands in the curriculum?
If we identify that additional small group planning is needed, or some enhancements of the curriculum might prove helpful, how can we use The Reading Comprehension Blueprint Activity Book for support? This video explains how a teacher might use one of the activities for narrative fiction text structure to support the 3rd Grade Unit 2 Day 1 learning target of focusing on story elements. This could be a support for whole group instruction or for students who require deeper practice with the story elements.
