Hello, my name is Aryana Shamlou. I’m a junior (11th Grade) at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast. A little bit about my background: I have a passion for math, languages, and acting. I’ve been playing piano for twelve years, and I’m a black belt in Taekwondo. I was a student at the International School of Orange County for eleven years. This incredible school helped shape me into the person I am today, and allowed me to be successful as a diverse person in my high school. I’ve been a tutor for a little while now, whether it’s helping my friends understand their Math lectures or with their vocabulary in French, this is something I really take joy in. Being able to push kids to be the best version of themselves and to make them feel better about attending class every day; that’s very important to me.
My favorite subjects in school are Math and Spanish, and they are also my best subjects. I know a lot of people dread Math, but I feel that with the right environment, help, and learning tactics, it’ll be a lot more enjoyable. I am currently enrolled in Multivariable Calculus, one of the hardest levels my school has to offer. I also participated at the Russian School of Math for six years, where I was a part of the Math Team and placed top 5% at the academy. As for Spanish, I’ve always had a love for languages. I am currently fluent in four languages (English, French, Farsi, almost Spanish), and I am taking Mandarin classes as well. At my high school, I am enrolled in Accelerated Spanish III. Spanish is very crucial and can be very useful living in California, so I feel that I can help kids prepare for high school, as well as give them a strong foundation in this beautiful language that will help them tremendously in their future.
Though Math and Spanish are my favorite subjects, I am also strong in English and French. My school offers a very strong foundation in English, therefore I will most definitely be able to help students who have a passion for English take it a step further.

Hi! I’m Dara Farnoush, and I graduated from ISOC in 2019, so I am currently a Junior at Foothill High School. I’m on the board for 8 clubs at Foothill, including being President of the French club, had Honor Roll for four years in a row, and had a 5.0 G.P.A. (as of the last report card). I was at LILA for eleven years before starting high school, from entering preschool to graduating eighth grade with Honor Roll.
I love helping my friends with their homework, and seeing as that is the case, I was not hesitant to jump in. Since ninth grade, I was a tutor at Foothill, where I not only helped my peers with every subject. Since I’m passionate about STEM, I am offering to help students who want to go over the class materials, or who just want to get ahead. I am currently taking AP BIology, along with AP US History and AP Environmental science, not to mention Pre-Calculus Honors, and I am on the IB track. I took AP Chemistry last year, in which I had an A, and got a 5/5 on the AP test. I also appreciate History, and would love to help anyone who wants further explanations or reviews or who wants to learn more about the subject. I took World History Honors freshman year and AP European History last year, both of which I excelled in. I also adore English, and would love to help anyone who would like or want it. Since ninth grade I have taken the hardest English class offered and I have (and have had) an A. If you want to join me for a session with another subject than those I teach, I will not hesitate to help!
I hope to see you soon!

I was a student at Lila for 11 years and I can honestly say it was a great experience. I enjoy tutoring because I love seeing the kids advance in academics.
My favorite subject in school as a Middle schooler was French and in Freshman year I took AP French as part of the IB program. Additionally, I scored a 5 (out of 5) on the AP exam. Also being a first generation French-American, French was my first language, therefore I am very comfortable in this subject and language.

My name is Ransom. I'm 16 years old and a 11th grader at Damien high school in La Verne. I was a student at ISOC since I was in preschool all the way to 8th grade. My favorite subjects are Math, Science, and Engineering. My top favorite hobbies include hockey, video games, and building computers. I have always enjoyed helping classmates get a better understanding of Math and Science and would like to do the same for current students. I have passed both the DELF B2 and AP French tests. Over summer, I have taken programming and 3D design courses at UCI since the age of 6. I also attended Pre-Med summer camp at UCI where I studied chemistry and dissected a pregnant tiger shark. This last summer I attended an Engineering class at Rose Hullman. I love math and science which is why I am excited to teach future ISOCalumni with math and science. This year I am taking 6 Ib/AP classes: AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, IB French, IB English HL, AP Computer Science A, and IB Career Pathways.

Hi! I’m Sara Farnoush, and I’m a freshman at Foothill High School. I had graduated from the International School of OC last year, and had been there since preschool. I’m a straight-A student who graduated with 3 years of High Honor Roll, and I’m taking two college-level courses with an 11th grade-level math class. All my other classes are Honors. I had been in Student Council for five years when I was at the International School of OC, as well as the class delegate for four years. I also passed the DELF B1 and B2 with flying colors (the B2 is a part of the credentials to apply for French citizenship.)
I am one of the newer members, but I am not any less experienced, as I’ve been helping my classmates and friends with anything they need help with for so many years. I also love working with kids, and helping them with anything at all, both in English and French, puts a smile on my face. I chose to join this organization, because one, I’m close to each and every one of the tutors here, and they’re like my family, and two, because I’d love to mentor the kids of the school that has been my home for the last 11 years!
Some of my hobbies are reading, writing, and hanging out with friends! I’m also about to begin archery lessons! I know that for the past two years, Covid-19 and quarantine have taken a toll on so many of us, especially the younger kids, but I really hope that this is a chance for the little younglings to talk to and see older kids again, especially if it’s for mentoring, seeing that they used to see the middle-schoolers every day before Covid, but now the school does not have a middle school section anymore.Hope to see you soon!

Hello there! My name is Roxana, and I’m a junior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, and a proud graduate of the International School of OC. My favorite subjects in school are both math and languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, because I enjoy analyzing every novel I get to read, and I’ve learned to understand all the logic that is needed to solve each problem, and I’d absolutely love to spread my love for both languages and math to younger students. I understand that students that love math are rare, and I’ve come to the conclusion that one only loves math once they know what approaches to use when solving problems, and how. My goal as a tutor is to teach students multiple things: a) the correct ways to pronounce and speak any of the 3 languages (conjugation, grammar, vocabulary, etc.) b) to view reading as not just something mandatory that teachers make students do, but to actually read the novels suggested and apply each moral to childrens’ everyday lives c) the many approaches to each problem and explain how they can be applied in more complex problems. I interned at a law firm this summer, which allowed me to write up and read numerous documents while looking at different approaches to each case. I additionally translated Spanish legal documents to English, which can say a lot about the level of vocabulary one needs in order to do that. I scored a 5 on the AP French Exam, so I have a strong vocabulary in all three languages, which allows me to tutor them. I completed 7 years at the Russian School of Math, an extracurricular that contributed to my understanding of Algebra and Geometry, and was offered a tutoring job there as well. However, I chose to tutor students attending ISOC because I would have the opportunity to not only tutor in English, but in French and Spanish as well. I took a Psychology course from Yale University, so I know what the best learning strategies and teaching approaches are for children of different ages. I also understand that tutoring online has its challenges, but I am motivated to push through distance learning and hopefully start tutoring in-person soon. I can’t wait to see everyone’s lovely faces and spread my love of languages and math to others!

Hi! My name is Maddie Chao and I’m currently a freshman at Sage Hill School. I attended the International School of OC since preschool and I graduated last year, in 8th grade. I’m a straight-A student and I graduated with 3 years of high-honor roll. My favorite subjects are math, science, and languages, including English, French, and Spanish. I have taken three years of Spanish at ISOC, and I recently passed the French DELF B2 exam. I’m currently enrolled in 10th-grade math, science, and Spanish classes. Some of my hobbies are reading, drawing, photography, and I’m also a junior-Olympic gymnast.
I have helped my friends and classmates over the years, and I hope to do the same for the kids currently enrolled at ISOC. I enjoy working with kids, and I hope that I can aid them with their work and guide them through anything they’re struggling with or just need to practice, both in English and in French.
Hello! My name is Daniel Yoon. I have attended ISOC for 10 years and each year has been a wonderful experience with complete immersion in French culture. I graduated ISOC with High Honor Rolls every year. I am currently attending Santa Margarita Catholic High School as a sophomore. I was awarded with a merit scholarship upon acceptance. I also serve as Student Ambassador at my school. I have completed my freshman year with a perfect GPA, and I am a part of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF). I am currently taking classes such AP French, Precalculus Honors, Chemistry Honors, English 2 Honors, String Orchestra Honors as a cellist, and Model United Nations with numerous awards. For extracurriculars, I play varsity ice hockey at Santa Margarita, and I am also a member of the junior rowing team at Newport Sea Base. In my free-time, I enjoy listening to music, and playing video games. As a Korean American who has grown up in French culture, I can easily see the importance of multiculturalism. I am trilingual in prominent languages from North America, Western Europe, and East Asia. Being fluent in three languages has allowed me to become a global citizen. Outside linguistics, I also believe that every part of our life is a language. With math, you are using reasoning and logic as a language in your mind to find an answer. I am a firm believer that math helps develop a logical thought process. It is not just a bland class full of absurd formulas and equations. While volunteering in the summer program at ISOC, I have worked with many young kids trying to learn French. Through the program, it was a fulfilling experience for me to pass on my knowledge to younger students at ISOC. I have learned that teaching others comes with its own set of joys and challenges, and it is something that I would love to continue.
Hey! My name is Yannis Agas and I am a sophomore at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. A little about me: I graduated from ISOC in 2020 and I really enjoyed my time immersed in French culture. At my current school, I am taking all honor/AP classes, which has led to me being a part of the California Scholarship Federation. My favorite subjects are Languages (Spanish, French, and Chinese), History, and English. Regarding my other school activities, I am heavily involved in Model United Nations in which I have won numerous national and regional awards including the title of Best Delegate. Furthermore, I am the president of the Make-A-Wish Club in which we are affiliated with the foundation and raise money for kids in need. I am also committed to athletics and sports at school. I am on varsity Cross Country and Track (placing 2nd in CA) as well as varsity Tennis. I also consider myself as an avid pianist, having performed in various recitals and have taken lessons for 7+ years. Moreover, some of my hobbies include mountain biking, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding and listening to music.
I always enjoy helping my friends with various school work whether it's a long essay about a complex novel or a tedious math equation that requires multiple steps. I am overfilled with joy when my fellow classmates understand a concept and continue to excel after I have helped them. I also enjoy mentoring younger kids because I get the same feeling of gratification when they learn new things. I truly want what’s best for them in all aspects and I hope to be able to help all the wonderful kids out there in learning about French or any other subject!

My name is Alexander Balian, I am a Sophomore at Foothill High School in Santa Ana, and an alumni of ISOC, where I studied for 9 years .
At IOSC I held the position of Class Delegate for 2 years in Middle School, and passed the DELF B1 and B2 exams with excellent results. Currently, I am taking honors and AP classes which got me on the Student Honor Roll and on the National Honors Society at Foothill. My love to teach French steamed from tutoring at ISOC after school, where I helped with French and math homework after hours. Along with studying the French language, I have also been playing Water Polo for several years now, and along with my team, earned 2nd place at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics in 2019. My most recent accomplishment is being nominated by USA Water Polo on their prestigious ”OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN” list, for my academic and athletic performance. Along with water polo I am an avid skier, awaiting my chance on Big Bear’s 2022 national freestyle ski team. As a Romanian-American, I love to travel. I have visited Romania every summer for the past 6 years, where I meet with family and practice the foreign language. I take great passion in learning languages of the sort, inspiring my multiple trips to France as well. I love working with young kids, and as a patient tutor, I will help you with anything you need.
I am looking forward to connecting with you and sharing my love for French and Math, hearing about your academic and athletic dreams and learning how I can support you in achieving them! Adieu!
