At Greenways Primary School we educate our children to ensure that by the end of their primary education, all pupils are able to read fluently, independently and with confidence.
We aim to develop our children’s imagination to open up a treasure house of wonder and joy for curious young minds.
Teachers nurture a love of books by placing reading at the centre of the curriculum, introducing new texts with enthusiasm and enjoyment. All teachers use quality texts in all aspects of their teaching across the curriculum and provide opportunities that extend and enrich the children’s learning. The love of language is developed by celebrating and exploring a range of texts, including texts from different cultures and authors which challenge stereotypes.
Reading is the golden thread which weaves throughout the entire curriculum. Today a reader, tomorrow a leader!

Take One Book
Beyond the teaching of phonics, Greenways uses the Take One Book framework to ensure that children learn through immersion in a wide range of rich and quality texts. The language and themes of texts are explored in depth over a sustained period, and include links to writing and other curriculum areas.
