Message from the Curriculum Leader

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today, our students were celebrated for your efforts and achievements during our annual sports day. Next week, most of our grade levels will undergo a form of formal assessment, whether it is MAP testing for our grades 7-9 or mock exams for our grade 11-13. To us, educators, this is a season of testing but also of feedback and an occasion to induce self reflection in our students. The Hebrew word “ Yākaḥ” is often used in the Bible to describe “life-giving correction”, this means to look into a situation where someone is wrong and use this time to provide feedback, restoration rather than destruction. Our goal for these assessments is not to dwell on the performance but to use the data to provide meaningful feedback that allows metacognition (provoking students to think about their own thought process) and growth.

Map testing allows us to track the progress of our students and devise ways to enable maximum growth and implement targeted interventions. Our Mock exams allow students to practice their exam writing (test taking skills) in a Cambridge style exam situation, this will help them to develop strategies to revise but also techniques to cope with the stress of writing exams. I am grateful to all our teachers for the effort they will put into the marking process as well as the feedback process, all of that done in a matter of 2 weeks!

Upcoming Events

Lighthouse Art Week, 20-24 July

We are excited to announce Lighthouse Art Week 2026, which will take place from Monday, 20 July to Friday, 24 July 2026.

This year’s theme, “A Gallery of Imagination,” celebrates the creativity, expression and artistic gifts of our students, staff and wider school community.

Artwork will be displayed in the Hub, creating a space where students, parents, staff and visitors can enjoy the creative work of our school community.
Artwork may be submitted in any form, including canvas art, drawings, paintings, sculptures, digital art, photography, crafts and more.
Students are invited to submit their artwork, and parents are also welcome to contribute their own creative pieces.
Submissions may be sent through students or handed in directly at school to Ms Prishma.
All artwork submissions must be made by Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at 15:00.

During Art Week, students will also take part in engaging art activities designed to encourage imagination, creativity and participation across the school.

As part of the celebration, artworks may also be included in an online auction from 20 July to 24 July 2026, but only with the artist’s consent. Parent consent forms for pictures to be used on the online auction platform have been submitted to the concerned students.

Students, parents, family members and friends are welcome to view, bid on and purchase artwork during the auction.

We look forward to seeing our school community come together to celebrate imagination, creativity and the joy of art!

Students must maintain full attendance and are expected to remain in school for the duration of each day (08:00 - 15:00).

Term 3 Sports Sign-Ups

Registration for Term 3 After-School Sports (Volleyball, Football, and Netball) will open during the term break. All registrations should be finalized by Monday, 24 August.

Opening registrations early will allow teams to begin training immediately upon our return, ensuring we make the most of the shortened term without losing valuable practice time waiting for sign-ups to be completed. We are also anticipating a football and volleyball competition during the first week back.

If your child has decided not to continue participating in after-school sports this term, particularly due to upcoming examinations, please ensure that all school-issued sports jerseys are returned promptly. Jerseys that are not returned may be charged to the student's account at the end of the school year.

We look forward to another exciting term of Volleyball, Football, and Netball, and we encourage all interested students to register on time so they don't miss out!

Basketball Now Offered at Lighthouse

We are happy to offer Secondary Students the opportunity to participate in basketball on Wednesday afternoons, starting from 15 July till end of Term 2.

All students, both new and experienced players, are welcome to attend. These sessions are free for Lighthouse students.

The sessions will run from 15:15 to 16:15 and will include learning the rules of basketball, skill development and game practice.

Mr Jon Bartlett, a Lighthouse parent and experienced coach and player, will run the Wednesday sessions with an emphasis on having fun and building confidence.

We will look to offer Basketball as an after school sport for Term 3 on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Multi-Sports Day Feedback

We had an amazing time welcoming Westcoast International Secondary School on Tuesday! Our netball, volleyball and football teams competed against their Westcoast peers in a series of heated matches around the campus.

There was so much excitement and joy in the air, that even the Primary students watched a couple of games!
