Dear Parents, Students and Caregivers,
Our first semester of 2024 is now complete and what a wonderful finish it was. We hope that you received your semester reports earlier today (do log onto our EdAdmin Portal) and that you (students and parents alike) took part in our first ever International Food Fair. What a festive way to end our first six months of school and hard work!
Of course we look forward to a wonderful second semester. Enjoy the mid-term break and we will see you on 8 July!
Sincerely,
Zach Mulert

Secondary News
After-School Sports News
We have several important after-school sports updates to share with you:
- Transportation:
Starting on Tuesday, 9 July, our transportation system will be in operation. The van will leave school at 16:15. We ask parents to be at the drop off points at 16:30 sharp,
Drop off point 1 - Super U Grand Baie
Drop off point 2 - Mont Choisy Beach
Drop off point 3 - Port Louis Waterfront: Please note that due to low demand, we will not be continuing this service.
For those using our after-school van transport, please, this system is only economically viable if there are sufficient users so if ridership decreases, we may be forced to organise carpools instead.
- Medical Forms:
To participate in sports, all medical forms must be submitted. If we have not received your form, you will be notified and will not be able to participate in after-school sports until the form is received. This is essential to ensure we have the necessary information to provide appropriate care in case of a medical emergency.
- Payment:
All outstanding fees were to have been settled by 27 June. If you did not make payment, please note that you will be notified that you are unable to continually participate in after school sports until payment is received. If you think you did not receive an invoice, please contact Mr. Lombard at hannes.lombard@lighthouse.edu.mu.
Sports Day Volunteers Needed
We are looking forward to the Secondary Sports Day on July 17, 2024 at the Cote d’Or Stadium. To make this event a success, we are in need of volunteers from our supportive parent community. Are you able to assist that day? Whether for part of the day or the full day, we need your help!
If you do not feel qualified to assist with sport, we have other needs as well!
Please see the short survey here and let us know if you are willing to assist!
Thanks so much! If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Lombard at hannes.lombard@lighthouse.edu.mu
Student ID Cards
If your child's Student Identity Card (SIC) expired, or you recently joined the Lighthouse family and need to apply for one for 2024, please fill out the Google Form to register for a new or renewed SIC. As the original renewal period took place last year, please note that a late renewal penalty fee of Rs.200 will be applied.
Payment should be made following your application and will only be accepted in cash by our Accounts department representative, Ms. Jennifer. Please make sure you complete your registration and payment by 28 June (today)!
Mr. Matthew/Ms. Hilary
Please note that Mr. Matthew and Ms. Hilary will be away after our Mid Term Break. Pastoral Care matters should be directed to Mr. Samuel Han (samuel.han@lighthouse.edu.mu) and counselling needs can continually be directed to Ms. Emily Holmes (emily.holmes@lighthouse.edu.mu).
Biblical Studies classes and Rite Journey classes will be covered by existing Lighthouse staff. We look forward to their return at the start of Term 3.
International Music Day
In celebration of International Music Day, last Friday, 21 June, we enjoyed a wonderful Music Day assembly from 14:00 onwards. Our students took part in an inter-school ‘Dance off’ and much fun was had by all! The time also included teachers competing against one another, and dancing with the students on internationally celebrated songs such as ‘Macarena’.
Rite Journey Report
Our Grade 9 students had a special field trip this past Monday as part of their Rite Journey Programme. Below is a brief summary of the activities:
Girls:
The field trip concluded a unit on body image. Recognising the pressure on young people to conform to certain appearances, the board-breaking activity challenged the girls to overcome negative stereotypes and adopt positive behaviours that enhance their self-esteem. Additionally, a small hike in the park promoted resilience and collaboration.
Boys:
The boys travelled to Albion cliffs for a day of rock climbing. Rock climbing is an ideal opportunity to test skill, strength, resilience and composure. These skills and attitudes are related to the metaphors of rock and water, which the boys have been learning about to develop their self-control. The boys have been learning when to be solid and when to be fluid. Jesus’ example as both ‘rock’ and ‘water’ was our inspiration during the debrief.
Last week, Grade 8 students completed their second Outdoor Education Day on the theme of ‘Forest Conservation’. Students learnt about the importance of restoring ecosystems in the forest - especially important in Mauritius where less than 2% of our native forest remains. Experts from Ebony Forest delivered a fascinating presentation on forest restoration and reptile conservation on the island. Our students learnt how to identify plants and ended the day by planting endemic and endangered tree species on school grounds. What a great lesson in caring for and restoring God’s creation! The Good Shop Donation Drive, 8-19 July
If you're spring cleaning or sorting your home this mid-term break, please keep any clothing, home and kitchen items, and appliances in good condition for our upcoming Good Shop Donation Drive. The drive will run from Monday, 8 July to Friday, 19 July. A designated Good Shop donation box will be at the Hub for easy drop-off in the morning or afternoon.
The Good Shop, a non-profit social enterprise, focuses on three core pillars: Education, Employment, and Environment. It regularly donates a portion of its quarterly surplus to the Lighthouse Scholarship Fund, which supports students from families with financial need. Lighthouse is committed to financial accessibility, and last November, The Good Shop celebrated its five-year anniversary by gifting Rs 250,000 to Lighthouse.
By donating second-hand items to The Good Shop, you support this valuable relationship and contribute to their broader mission. Additionally, you can enjoy a great shopping experience at their stores, including the nearest one in Calebasses, as well as locations in Petite Rivière, Moka, Curepipe, and the new shop opening in Rose Belle/New Grove.
Current Grade 9 (Rising G10) Subject Selection
We have sent the Grade 9 CAT4 reports as well as the Subject Selection Form by email. You can also access the selection form here. Please note that the last day to submit your subject selection for IGCSE Grade 10 2025 is on Wednesday, 10 July.
Uniform Shop Notice
Our uniform shop has moved from the Primary Resource Room, to above the Pavilion kitchen. Click here for clear directions on how to find our new shop! As always, you can view the uniform price list here. You can also email Ms. Melanie at uniform@lighthouse.edu.mu.
Lost and Found Reminder
We have noticed a growing number of unmarked clothing, caps, and water bottles in our Lost and Found box. If your child has lost something recently, please have them check the Lost and Found box in the Pavilion. To ensure lost items are returned promptly, please clearly mark all belongings with your child's full name. Additionally, remind your children that they are responsible for their belongings while at school. Any items not collected by 12 July will be donated to The Good Shop. Thank you for your cooperation!
