Message from the Head of Secondary
Dear Parents, Students and Caregivers,
As Term 1 winds down, we pray that the progress reports sent yesterday help offer some feedback and ideas on how to continually learn and grow heading into Term 2. As outlined below, if you would like additional feedback (personal comments written by subject teachers), please do fill out the form link below.
As we prepare for Term 2, I did want to inform you of a number of personnel changes. Ms. Emma Solomon, Maths teacher, will be leaving us at the end of the term to the United States where her husband, Doug is now pastoring a church. Thankfully, Ms. Anais Baptiste-Merne will be returning from her maternity leave in Term 2 in her capacity as Maths and French teacher. As also previously announced, Ms. Smita Samyan gave birth to a baby boy earlier this month, and we are grateful that Ms. Alicia Wan joined us this past Tuesday as an Accounting teacher during Ms. Smita’s leave.
I feel grateful to be working alongside a dedicated team of teachers who have such excellent learning goals in mind. I hope you will join me in thanking Ms. Emma for her years of service, in congratulating Ms. Smita, and in welcoming back Ms. Anais.
Sincerely,
Zach Mulert
Head of Secondary

World Scholars Cup Report
15 Lighthouse students had the opportunity to participate in the regional round of the World Scholar’s Cup held at Westcoast International School on the 16th and 17th of April. Our students took part in the team debate, quiz competition and collaborative writing, among many events over those two days.
What a joy it was to see our students having fun while learning and competing with other students in such a collegial atmosphere.
We look forward to sharing more about our students' victories in next week's newsletter! Watch this space.
Chromebooks Update for Grade 7
We are happy to announce that the long-awaited Chromebooks have arrived at Lighthouse. Grade 7 students who have completed their payment will be receiving their Chromebooks beginning Monday, April 22. Thank you for all of your patience with the delayed arrival of this important learning tool. All Grade 7’s may from Monday begin using their devices at school.
Please ensure devices are fully charged at home outside the bedroom. Each Grade 7 receives a hard copy of the Digital Learning Initiative handbook. Please work through this with your child and discuss this new added responsibility. The links in the handbook to other resources are available in the above link.

In case you missed Tuesday’s Information Night, you can find the presentation here. Take note that subject selections for 2025 will take place at the end of June after the completion of the CAT4 exams.
End of Term 1 Special Schedule
Please take note that Term 1 ends on Friday, April 26th and school will dismiss at 12:40 that day. Please note that we will also be holding our end of term assembly from 11:50am - 12:40pm. As a result, Period 5 (usually held from 11:50am - 12:40pm) will instead take place from 9:40am - 10:30am.
Two Tuesday Schedules This Week
A reminder to students that next week, we will follow a Tuesday schedule on both Tuesday, April 24th and on Thursday, April 26th. This is to help balance out the number of in-person classes we have had this term as a result of rain days.
Looking Ahead to Term 2
Out of Uniform
Please take note that in Term 2, should a student come to school not in proper Lighthouse uniform, the student will be sent to the Hub until a proper uniform can be delivered to the school by parents/caregivers.
Academic Support Changes
We encourage all students, parents and caregivers to reach out to subject teachers and homeroom teachers when raising any concerns or questions pertaining to academics. If those communications fail to bring about resolution, please note that in Term 2, Mr. Dylan Langheim will be overseeing academic matters for Grades 7-9, Ms. Anais Baptiste-Merne will be overseeing academic matters for Grades 10 and 11, and Mr. Chad Neeley will be overseeing academic matters for Grades 12 and 13. You can contact them via the EdAdmin (Edana) portal.
