Dear Parents, Students and Caregivers,
We pray that the first two days of the 2026 school year were joyous! While transitions are already a bit difficult, we hope you are adjusting well to new rhythms and routines. If you have relevant feedback about our communication, things you noticed that went well, or things you would like Lighthouse to improve upon, feel free to email Mr. Frederick (frederick.francois@lighthouse.edu.mu) or myself (zach.mulert@lighthouse.edu.mu) so that we can partner well with you in our shared educational efforts.
I am happy to share more information and news below (including introducing our new faculty and staff!) and we look forward to a great 2026!
Zach Mulert
Head of Secondary
We are proud to announce a 100% pass rate in the A1 and A2 DELF examinations taken in October 2025. We would like to remind you that the DELF is an official French language qualification awarded by the French Ministry of National Education. It certifies the level of proficiency in French and is internationally recognised. As this was the first time our students sat for the DELF exams, their success is particularly meaningful and reflects their hard work and dedication.
We look forward to receiving the A1.1 results soon and celebrating further achievements.
Please take note that with Cyclone Season upon us, Lighthouse has its WEATHER-RELATED CLOSING 2026 policy to help guide you when weather warnings are issued by the Mauritius Meteorological Services. In the case of online learning as per protocol, we follow a revised schedule for online synchronous learning. Any changes in schedule will be communicated as quickly as possible via our Facebook Page, Class Liaison WhatsApp groups, and Ed-Admin portal. And just in case you forget what to do, here is a video produced last year for students, about how to handle an online learning day. You can watch this brief video, taking note of a special schedule (classes will start at 9:00) along with a brief reminder of how to find all of your classes on Google Classroom.
Next Friday (23 January), we will be holding our annual Student House Leader elections. Each year we elect 4 house leaders from each house, to help lead and plan our activities throughout the year. In addition, they provide us insight into the following areas:
Sports Coordination
Relationship and Care
Ethics and Discipline
Social Events
Spiritual Formation
Any students between Grades 8-13 are encouraged to apply and speak with their respective house leader (Mr Bruno - Amare; Mr Andikate - Fidem; Mrs Farai - Spero).
The Monday following the election, on the 26 January, we will have our Student Leader Retreat off campus, where we begin planning and discussing the upcoming year.
As a school, we like to recognise and celebrate our student body as they demonstrate outstanding character. We pride ourselves in being a school that actively seeks to follow our core values. Teachers give behaviour merits to students, to recognise individual moments where they have exemplified the school’s values and culture.
However, we realise that there has been one important party missing from this process: parents! Starting this year, parents will now receive an auto-generated email from ed-Admin, every time a teacher gives a behaviour merit to their son or daughter. We hope that throughout the course of this year, you can be encouraged by positive feedback and messages from our teachers to students, as we all strive to live in a community of care, citizenship, resilience, curiosity, integrity and grace.
We are delighted to announce the continuation of our after-school sports programme this year.
We remain committed to offering the same sports as in 2025:
Football (boys),
Netball (girls)
Volleyball (boys and girls).
As many of you have already noticed around campus, significant improvements have been made to our facilities, creating an environment that better supports the development of our students’ athletic talents.
Sign-ups for students and parents will open on Friday, 16 January. We encourage all interested students to register promptly, as sign-ups will close on 23 January, with the first practice scheduled for 27 January.
Training sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15–4:15 pm. Transportation can be provided if needed.
Some locations require a minimum number of participants, so we encourage families to sign up regardless; transportation needs will be reviewed once overall demand is known.
Following registration, students will be given a one-week trial period for their chosen club or team. After this trial week, permission slips will be issued along with the participation fee, which has not yet been finalised but is expected to be similar to last year’s cost.
We are truly excited about the recent field upgrades and look forward to nurturing and developing the talents of our student-athletes.
We encourage families to sign up at their earliest convenience and be part of another exciting year of school sport.
For IGCSE (Grade 10) subjects, the deadline to complete any official subject add or drop request is Monday, 2 February, 2026. Students are reminded that they need to have a minimum of 7 IGCSE subjects including one science and one humanities. The form can be found here.
Separately, for students taking AS Level subjects, the changes can be made from Tuesday, 10 February, 2026, until Monday, 16 February, 2026. Kindly note that for all subject changes, only parents and guardians are allowed to fill in the form.
Please join me in welcoming some of our new staff and sharing a bit of exciting news with you too!

We still have many jackets that have been found on the playground, or in the Pavilion in Term 3. If your child is missing a jacket, please be sure to check our ‘Lost & Found’ box at the hub before the end of this month. We will make all remaining jackets available to our bursary students thereafter.
We warmly invite parents and students to join our faculty for a time of praise and worship on Wednesday, 28 January, from 07:20 - 07:40 in the Pavilion.
As every week, parents are welcome on Friday for our prayer meetings, as we come together to lift our school and community before God.
Join us from 08:00 to 08:30 at the Hub (upstairs balcony). We look forward to seeing you there!
We look forward to welcoming new parents to our New Parents Evening on 28 January at 18:00.
Meanwhile, having initiated Class Parent Liaison WhatsApp groups last year, we are looking for willing volunteers who are interested in serving as grade level parent liaisons for this year. If you would like to be a communicator for a WhatsApp group, please indicate your interest to Mr. Frederick Francois (frederick.francois@lighthouse.edu.mu)
To ensure that we have the most up-to-date information for your child, we kindly ask you to log-in to your Ed-admin Parents’ Portal and update your details if any change in address, phone number etc.
If something has changed for your child health wise, please keep us up to date by submitting a new Student Health Form. Otherwise, we will assume all permissions and medical information remain unchanged.
No medications may be kept in student bags! If your child needs to take medication while at school, please fill out this Medication Authorization form and drop the form and medication at the Hub.
