Message from the Head of Secondary
Dear Parents, Students and Caregivers,
Thank you to all those who have volunteered to assist with our International Food Fair next Friday, June 28th. We really believe this is going to be a fantastic end to our first semester and I am grateful for the many parents and faculty who have agreed to contribute to this event. If you still want to cook or bring some food that day, please declare your interest here.
This past week, our senior leadership was meeting to already lay out plans for 2025 and to make sure we doing everything with intentionality. As cited in this summative article “(Zimmerman, Bandura, & Martinez-Pons, 1992). Miner (2005) suggested that goal setting works through three basic propositions:
Goals energise performance through the motivation to expend the required effort in line with the difficulty of the task.
Goals motivate people to persist in activities over time.
Goals direct people’s attention to relevant behaviours and away from behaviours which are irrelevant or detrimental to the achievement of the task.”
Just as we are teaching our students about prioritisation sometimes in reference to the Eisenhower Matrix (sometimes called the Urgent-Important Matrix), so too do we as an institution try to practise what we preach. In our commitment to academic outcomes (progress of learning) and character building (spiritual formation), it was wonderful to lay out intentional plans to not only make sure our second semester of 2024 is a success, but that we are setting ourselves up well for 2025.
As our semester draws to a close next week and semester reports are sent home, I hope you can use this as a time to reflect on successes or growth areas, as well as a catalyst for determining what is most urgent and important for you, in all the ways that you want to continually grow and improve.
Sincerely,
Zach Mulert
Head of Secondary

After-School Sports: Transport, Updated Tournament Schedule & Medical Forms
We have several important after-school sports updates to share with you:
Transportation: Please note that the vans will use the following drop off points to drop the students off after sport has been completed. It is the responsibility of the parent to arrange transportation or pick up from the drop off location. The van will leave at school 16:15. We ask parents to be at the drop off points at 16:30 sharp,
Drop off point 1 - Super U Grand Baie
Drop off point 2 - Mont Choisy Beach
Drop off point 3 - Port Louis Waterfront
NB: Please note that students do not have to use van transportation; this service is simply available for those who are not able to arrange their own transport home after sport.
Medical Forms: It is mandatory for all students to submit their updated medical forms by this coming Monday 24 June 2024. Forms were handed out at practice on Thursday and linked in last week’s newsletter. Unfortunately if we do not receive the medical form back before practice on Tuesday, students will not be allowed to participate. This is essential to ensure we have the necessary information to provide appropriate care in the event of a medical emergency.
Payment: A friendly reminder to settle any outstanding fees by Thursday 27 June 2024. If the student has not received an invoice already (they were sent home last Friday, June 14), please contact Mr. Lombard at hannes.lombard@lighthouse.edu.mu. If we have not received payment by Thursday, 27 June, students will henceforth not be able to participate in sport.
Tournament Schedule Update
Please note that our confirmed tournaments are on
27 July (Football and Netball)
2 August (Beach Volleyball)
Rainy Days
Please note that after school sports will always take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays regardless of the weather. When unsafe to carry on outside, separate arrangements will be made for conditioning or strategy sessions that are still additive to the team.
Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr Lombard.
Student ID Cards
If your child's Student Identity Card (SIC) expired, or you recently joined the Lighthouse family and need to apply for one, please fill out this Google form to register for a new or renewed SIC. As the original renewal period took place last year (as stated in an email sent in October 2023), please note that a late renewal penalty fee of Rs200 will be applied.
Payment should be made following your application and will only be accepted in cash by our Accounts department representative, Ms. Jennifer. She will be available from Monday to Friday (excluding Tuesday) during the break time from 10:20 to 11:00 at the Hub. Please make sure you complete your registration and payment by 30 June.
Grade 11 Art Outing
The Grade 11 Art students recently visited the 41st Salon de Mai, held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute/School of Fine Arts in Moka.
This event celebrates Mauritian creativity, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their work. During the visit, the students had the chance to engage with one of the artists present, enjoying insightful discussions and viewing several impactful artworks.
The experience was both enriching and inspiring for the students.
Uniform Shop Notice
Our uniform shop has moved from the Primary Resource Room, to above the Pavilion kitchen. Please see map below for clear directions on how to find our new shop! As always, you can view the uniform price list here. You can also email Ms. Melanie at uniform@lighthouse.edu.mu.
Lost and Found Reminder
We have noticed a growing number of unmarked clothing, caps, and water bottles in our Lost and Found box. If your child has lost something recently, please have them check the Lost and Found box in the Pavilion. To ensure lost items are returned promptly, please clearly mark all belongings with your child's full name. Additionally, remind your children that they are responsible for their belongings while at school.
