Dear Lighthouse Primary School Parents,
I trust this message finds you well, and I extend my sincere gratitude to each one of you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the challenges that the past few weeks have brought upon us. Today, I am delighted to share that we have successfully completed a full day of school, and it brings immense joy to see our students back in their classrooms, engaged in the learning process.
Thank you for being an integral part of the Lighthouse Primary School community. Together, we will overcome challenges and continue to provide a nurturing and enriching educational experience for our students.
Bridge Days Calendar Decisions
Acknowledging the frustrations surrounding the recent canceled days of school, I want to express our sincere appreciation for your resilience and support. We understand the impact these disruptions have on your daily routines and the continuity of your child's education.
Reflecting on the unexpected interruptions, I'd like to shed light on a decision made last year when crafting our annual calendar. Our careful consideration of attendance data revealed that a significant percentage of families were taking off days surrounding public holidays, creating challenges for our teaching staff. With as much as 30% of students absent on these "bridge" days, maintaining a consistent learning environment became a complex task.
Our intention was to ensure optimal learning outcomes for all students by strategically scheduling teaching days when the entire student body could be present. The decision to include certain Fridays as days off was made with the hope that advanced communication and planning would mitigate the impact on families.
We fully recognize the profound effect that the cancellation of in-person learning has had on our plans. The absence of a consistent rhythm and flow is a concern we share, and we are actively engaged in discussions to explore adjustments that will lead to better learning outcomes. We are committed to addressing your concerns, and I want to assure you that your thoughts are being heard and taken into careful consideration.
I want to be clear that your feedback is invaluable, and we are actively working as a team to align our efforts with our shared goal of providing the best possible learning experience for all students. I understand the challenges you face when unexpected school closures occur, and we are committed to minimizing the impact on your child's education.
Rest assured, our teaching staff is well-prepared and committed to covering the entire curriculum, even in the face of interruptions. We appreciate your ongoing support and collaboration in creating an environment that fosters the continuous growth and development of our students.
Have a great weekend!

Belal Cyclone Relief: How we made a difference
A heartfelt thank you to all who volunteered their time sorting relief items, donated clothing or non-perishable food, or offered a helping hand during last weekend's clean-up day in Port Louis.
Together we have made the following impact:
60 families from different regions have been assisted
Over 2300 clothing items were distributed
25 bags of food donations were distributed
A team of 15 volunteers helped on a clean-up day, on 27 January, bringing hope and relief to a severely impacted community
