Dear Parents and Primary Students,
Welcome back! It is truly wonderful to see all the children returning to school, their faces bright with happiness and enthusiasm. The energy they bring to the classroom is infectious, and we are excited to embark on another term of learning and growth together.
We would like to remind you to save the date for our upcoming Parent Learning Conferences on 23 July. Through these conferences, we aim to empower parents with knowledge about the learning processes of modern children and how we, as parents, can support our children in this ever-changing world.
We are sad to say goodbye to Ms Nditha in Grade 4 and Ms Tanya in Grade 5 during this term. We wish them both all the best as they prepare to leave Mauritius and join Schools in Malaysia and South Africa during this term.
We are excited to announce that Ms Sarah will teach Grade 5 for this term and that Ms Nikita will be teaching Grade 4. Both of these teachers are experienced and very excited about the new opportunities these changes bring.
Please see messages from the teachers below.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We look forward to a fantastic term ahead!
Warm regards,
Hannes van der Westhuysen
Head of Primary
Dear Parents
I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to teach Grade 4 this year. Working with this group of young minds is incredibly exciting as they are at a pivotal stage of their academic and personal development. As I am completing my Post-graduate diploma in Education, I look forward to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment where each student can thrive, express themselves creatively, and cultivate a love for learning with the support of Ms Nditha and Ms Caroline.
I believe that by working together, we can create memorable experiences, build strong connections, and lay the foundation for a successful academic year filled with growth, achievement, and joy. I am truly looking forward to the upcoming term and the opportunity to learn and grow together.
Here’s to a beautiful term together.
With love and blessings,
Ms. Nikita.
Dear Parents
After qualifying in 2008 from my four year degree in education I began teaching right away, and have loved it ever since! Although I have been teaching music for the last 8 years, I started out my teaching journey as a homeroom teacher and through the years taught a variety of ages in various countries. My love for music runs deep, however I am truly excited about being given this opportunity to be back in a classroom with my 'own children' who I can spend time with daily and prayerfully sew into their lives and bring out the best in each one of them holistically. My promise is that I will give my all to your children over the next few months and do my utmost best to see them thrive academically, socially and spiritually. It is truly my privilege to embark upon this new chapter.
Love Ms Sarah
Primary School News
One of Lighthouse's ongoing projects has been to create a FarmLab on our premises. Its objective is to provide a space for Lighthouse students, from Primary through to Secondary school, to learn about sustainable food growth and experiment with various methods of achieving this. At the moment, we have a vegetable garden (yes, some of our salad leaves, tomatoes and cucumbers used in the kitchen come from there!) and an aquaponics system.
Mr Damien Tanner is heading up this project and is looking for any volunteer who can help him make this project sustainable. No prior experience is required. Volunteers will be sowing, planting and trellising vegetables, composting and looking after the fish. The days to come and help are Mondays to Fridays (except Tuesdays) from 11:00 to 15:00. We would, ideally, like people who can be available on a regular basis.
Anyone can be part of it! It doesn't matter if you're retired, a school graduate waiting to start your studies, a work-from-home parent with flexibility - anyone can get involved!
Contact Mr Damien at damien.tanner@lighthouse.edu.mu to get involved.
We've just received new books for our leveled reading collection and need help covering and stamping them. We're also seeking volunteers to connect with our Library and Learner Support teams. Our goal is to encourage our children to read as much as possible!
If you have time, a passion for reading, and enjoy listening to children read, we invite you to get involved. This is the perfect opportunity for you!
Contact Ms Flo at florence.thomas@lighthouse.edu.mu for more info.
Sports and Clubs
Sports and Clubs for Term 2 will start this coming week, Tuesday, 21 May. We're excited about our offering for Term 2 and believe that it will be a fun and enriching term.
Outdoor Education Overview
Term 1's Outdoor Education included forest school where pupils enjoyed campfire cooking, creating a bug hotel and building miniature bridges.
The grade 5 pupils completed a day of trust building activities, including the team ladder and blindfolded obstacle course.
Grade 6 pupils built on the theme of trust by finding hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. After solving the challenges of the outdoor 'escape room', pupils improvised with limited resources to protect their precious egg mascot in the great egg drop!
This verse was the inspiration for the day: 'May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit'. Romans 15:13 NIV
