Message from the head of primary school

Dear Lighthouse Primary School Parents,

As we complete another very short week I would like to wish you all a wonderful weekend.

In this week's newsletter, we want to showcase some of our house activities and the work that is done in Fidem, Spero, and Amare click on the link to read more. We are proud of our house teams and their enthusiasm.

In our Edu-blog this week

As a school we continue to look at how we can support our students in the best ways possible. It is for this reason that we hired an Occupational Therapist in 2023 (Ms Angelica Rose). This week, as we celebrate Occupational Therapy month, we are featuring Ms Angelica and her role at Lighthouse. Please follow this link for more.

Grade 6 Outdoor Days

In the first week of April, the Grade 6Y and GG students had their respective Outdoor Days. As always, much fun was had, with life lessons and spiritual truth woven into the day's adventure-filled activities.

To report on the Grade 6's experience, we asked student, Tanishka Bijloll to give us her account:

On Tuesday 2nd April 2024 Grade 6 Green had their first Outdoor Education Day. At 8:20 we went to the Pavilion and got into groups of five. We also made up our team names and war cries before playing a few games. The first game was about alphabetical order and the second game we played was the Trust Fall, because the theme of this day was all about hope. We had so much fun at the Pavilion.

Next, we started our scavenger hunt, followed by playing bingo around the campus - we had to find teachers and students to sign a piece of paper if they had something or if they were able to do something specific.

At 12 o’clock, it was lunchtime. We quickly gobbled our food so we could do some more challenges. We played archery in our groups and had so much fun playing. After that, we had solo time, during which we had to write on a paper about a verse from the Bible, Romans15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

After a few minutes, we prayed and got into our groups and talked about hope. We had to build a parachute from some materials we were given. The challenge was to protect an egg from breaking when we dropped the parachute. We dropped our eggs from the first floor of The Hub and checked if they had broken or not.

At the end of the day, we had some free time and played. Soon after, it was time to go home. We were so sad the day had ended but also excited to go home and tell our families about everything!
