Mission
It is the mission of Life Skills Enhancement Services, LLC to support individuals to remain safe, better their health and well-being, maintain independence and improve their lives. We want to help people to reach their full potential by enhancing life skills, empowerment, and wellness.
In Virginia, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) are designed to provide assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, enabling them to live independently in their own homes or family homes. These services are regulated by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) and are covered under the Family and Individual Supports (FIS) and Community Living (CL) waivers12.

Service Description:
IHSS is a residential service that takes place in the individual’s home, family home, or community settings.
The service supplements the primary care provided by the individual, family, or other unpaid caregivers.
Eligibility and Criteria:
Individuals must require help with adaptive skills necessary to reside successfully in home and community-based settings.
Allowable Activities:
Skill-building and routine supports related to Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs).
Supports for using community resources, such as transportation, shopping, and participating in social and recreational activities.
Assistance in replacing challenging behaviors with positive behaviors.
Monitoring health and physical condition, including medication assistance.
Providing transportation to and from community sites and resources12.
Service Units and Limitations:
Services are typically provided in hourly units and are reimbursed based on the number of individuals served.
IHSS is not typically provided 24 hours per day but can be authorized for brief periods up to 24 hours when necessary.
IHSS cannot be provided simultaneously with other residential services like group home or supported living services.
A backup plan is required to ensure the individual’s safety in case the provider is unable to render services12.
Provider Requirements:
Providers must be licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and have a signed participation agreement with DMAS.
Providers are responsible for directly rendering the service and billing DMAS for reimbursement2.
We provide supports to children, individuals, and seniors to live in their own homes. We provide help with personal needs such as bathing, eating, ambulation, cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning, running errands, medications and attending medical appointments, and community activities.
Our staff are professional, trained, and experienced to support the people served with meeting all of their needs and staying safe.
Our staff are trained to help reduce social isolation by increasing community involvement, and by engaging in conversations, sharing mealtime, movement and other stimulating activities.
We support individuals with developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities with learning skills to increase independence in a safe manner.
These individuals are supervised at home and in the community and may learn through modeling, engaging, and skill building.
We help older adults maintain independence by working with their healthcare professional in creating plans and provide support in implementing those plans safely.
Children are supported to reach milestones by coordinating programs and activities as designed by a qualified professional.
Our goal is to help people improve their lives by reaching their full potential. We help with improving health outcomes for individuals served.
We work with your doctor or other health professional to manage your care, support with understanding what is being said at medical appointments and putting into action steps to better your lifestyle and improve your health.
We provide the necessary support to help individuals stay healthy, strengthen well-being, and to help people stay in their homes and out of the hospital and other institutions.
