As the senior member of the Corps of Cadets, the battalion commander must constantly be aware of his/her every action within the school and community. The image that he/she has a mirroring effect on all J.R.O.T.C. programs, schools, and the US Army. Although not all inclusive, some of his/her duties are a follows:
1. Overall supervision of the battalion.
2. Designates particular areas for inspection and/or supervision by members of his/her staff, insuring that necessary reports are timely rendered and follow-up action is taken as appropriate.
3. Inspects work of all staff officers.
4. Recommends job assignments and/or relief from job assignments.
5. Recommends promotions, demotions, and awards.
6. Schedules and presides over command and staff and/or commanders conferences.
7. Accomplishes additional duties as directed by the Army Instructors.
8. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Assumes command of the battalion in the absence of the battalion commander.
Recommends job assignments and/or relief from job assignments.
Recommends promotions, demotions, and awards.
Serves as advisor to the battalion commander in formulating policy and plans for the battalion.
Serves as Commander of Troops during the Formal Inspection.
Directs, coordinates, and supervises the battalion staff.
Performs additional duties by the battalion commander.
7. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Prepares, posts on the bulletin boards, and files weekly training schedules for the battalion and ensures Company XO's have posted the Company training schedules.
Maintains reference files and reference library.
Maintains a record of all extracurricular activities in which the battalion is involved.
Prepares risk assessments and OPORDS for all activities conducted by the battalion in school and within the community.
Responsible for making the parade field and the upkeep of the marching equipment.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
Performs additional duties as directed by the battalion commander.
Prepares all correspondence for the battalion.
Publishes all orders pertaining to the battalion within the published deadlines.
Maintains and posts J.R.O.T.C. student records to JUMS.
Ensures cadet record files are created and maintained for all assigned to the program.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
6. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Keeps the battalion informed on current events.
Prepares news releases and reports J.R.O.T.C. news to school newspapers.
Arranges for public information coverage and photographs of J.R.O.T.C. events/activities as appropriate.
Keeps the bulletin boards neat and current.
Maintains a scrap book of all J.R.O.T.C. activities and records the battalion history as it occurs.
Researches and publishes weather reports for OPORDS and weekly for Company planning.
Corrects uniform violations observed.
Responsible for maintenance of the J.R.O.T.C. supplies, uniforms, and equipment.
Assists the Army Instructor in issuing, and inventorying uniforms and supplies.
Assists the Army Instructor in maintaining individual clothing records.
Insures that the supply room is clean, neat, and orderly at all times.
Informs the Army Instructor of shortages and of availability of expendable supplies.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
Responsible for overseeing all projects provided by the battalion commander, SAI, or AI.
Responsible for maintaining a suspense log for all assigned projects.
Reports at staff meeting on status of assigned projects.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
Performs additional duties as directed by the battalion commander, SAI, or AI.
Responsible for the digital newsletter sent out to the battalion.
Serves as a model soldier/cadet for the entire Corps of Cadets throughout the school.
1. Supervises the color guard and insures that they are properly trained and that their special equipment is on hand and properly maintained.
2. Supervises all First Sergeants.
3. Responsible for the accountability of all colors within the battalion. (national, battalion, state). And holding 1SG's accountable for the same if within their companies. (guidons)
4. Schedules and conducts meetings with the non-commissioned officers when necessary.
5. Commandant supervises the testing of all enlisted cadets for enlisted promotions.
6. Responsible for the coordination and conducting of all boards within the battlaion (promotion, Cadet of the month, quarter, year)
7. Corrects uniform violations when observed.
8. Performs other duties as directed by the battalion commander.

Each of the company commanders is responsible to the battalion commander for the following:
1. Responsible for the training, training schedule, discipline, and appearance of his/her company.
2. Recommending job assignments or relief from assignments.
3. Recommending promotions and demotions.
4. Reporting disciplinary problems to Instructors without delay.
5. Ensuring weekly inspections of cadets in ranks (on uniform days) assisted by the other company leadership.
6. Correcting uniform violations when observed.
7. Insuring that all company officers and non-commissioned officers are thoroughly familiar with appropriate drill regulations.
8. Utilizes the chain of command when issuing orders and directives and insuring that others in his/her company do likewise.
9. Attending Battalion Commanders Meetings/Officers Call/Command and Staff when announced.
10. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Is responsible to the company commander, but provides assistance to the S-4, S-3, and the Army Instructors
Responsible for the accountability and issuing of cadet uniforms within the company in conjunction with or in lieu of company supply assistant
Confers with SAI/AI for information for Company training plan development and completing and submitting company training calendar to S-3.
Responsible for updating uniform accountability tracker to the S-4
Responsible for company merit/demerit roster validation and updating.
Assumes command in the absence of the company commander
Corrects uniform violations when observed during inspection or in school.
Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
The company first sergeants are responsible to their individual company commanders for the following:
1. Coordinating with platoon sergeants to insure proper training and supervision of the flag detail, when appropriate.
2. Observing the flag detail, morning and afternoon, at least twice each week, as appropriate.
3. Recommending job assignments and relief from job assignments.
4. Recommending promotions and demotions.
5. Responsible for the company when under his/her command (when company officers are in meeting or otherwise not present).
6. The first sergeant maintains a file on weekly reports of findings during inspections, periodically.
7. Corrects uniform violations when observed during inspection or in school
8. Accomplishes those duties that are directed by the company commander, executive officer, and/or Army Instructor.
9. Attending Command and Staff/First Sergeants'/NCO meetings when announced.
10. Counsels platoon sergeants on expectations and performances in accordance with the company mission.
11. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Platoon leaders are responsible to their individual company commanders for the following:
1. Training, discipline, and appearance of cadets of their platoon.
2. Providing a flag detail when directed, if appropriate.
3. Recommending job assignments and relief from job assignments.
4. Recommending promotions and demotions.
5. Correcting uniform violations when observed during inspections and in school.
6. Attending officers meetings when announced.
7. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Platoon sergeants are responsible to their individual platoon leaders for the following:
1. Forming the platoon.
2. Assuming command of the platoon in the absence of the platoon leader.
3. Assisting the platoon leader as directed.
4. Recommending job assignments and relief from job assignments.
5. Recommending promotions and demotions.
6. Taking the roll call (report) at all formations.
7. Correcting uniform violations when observed during inspections and in school.
8. Frequently quizzes cadets in his/her platoon to see if they are knowledgeable of basic military material, chain of command, the names of leaders, etc.
9. Attending NCO meetings when announced.
10. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Squad leaders are responsible to their individual platoon sergeants for the following:
1. The senior squad leader will form the platoon in the absence of the platoon sergeant.
2. The discipline and appearance of the squad.
3. Insures that he/she is thoroughly familiar with appropriate drill regulations.
4. Insuring that his/her squad is trained to perform the flag detail and any other ceremony in which the squad is to participate.
5. Observing his/her cadets when they are on any assigned detail.
6. Making accurate reports of absentees at platoon and company formations.
7. Knowing the name of each member of the squad and the shortages) of uniforms, uniform items, and other equipment issued to the squad or its members.
8. Recommending promotions and demotions.
9. Making weekly inspection of cadets in the squad.
10. Understands the regulations that govern drill, uniforms, awards and decorations.
Cadets that are not officers nor non-commissioned officers are responsible to the leaders (officers and non-commissioned officers) for the following:
1. To live to the high standards of integrity, conduct, courtesy, loyalty, and personal appearance that is expected of all J.R.O.T.C. Cadets.
2. To conduct themselves in a manner that at all times reflects credit upon the J.R.O.T.C. Battalion, the school and themselves personally.
3. To obey all orders in a willing and cooperative manner.
4. Maintain and wear the entire cadet uniform immaculately on the days prescribed.
5. To be on time for all official formations.
6. Properly safeguard and care for all equipment and material for which held accountable.
