Confidentiality

Students' confidentiality is extremely important to School Counselors. What a student shares with the School Counselor is kept confidential, unless the School Counselor believes the students is danger or is given permission to share information. Here is what I tell students when they come to see me:

"What you say in here, stays in here, except...

1. If someone is hurting you or plans to.

2. If you are hurting yourself or plan to.

3. If you are hurting someone else or plan to.

4. If you are in danger.

5. If you give me permission to tell another trusted adult.

*Also, if a student tells me they know someone else is being hurt or is in danger, it is my job to report that information to the proper authorities.
