Optimism builds as we begin to see things reopen. The musical, High School Musical the Musical On Stage, was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. This year the fate of the musical was unknown, however this weekend they successfully pulled off 3 in person shows. There were restrictions such as three seats between family groups, and only seating in every other row, so seating was limited. The show was great! The cast and crew did an amazing job! Nothing but great reviews from the people that were able to attend. Congratulations cast and crew!

As we continue living and working with the pandemic, we create new ways to continue old traditions. Secret Santa parties are definitely a staple piece of my Christmas's. This type of party, however, could be tricky to navigate during a no contact, socially distant time. Ashley Monk (senior), put together an online Secret Santa with a large group of her friends. She used an online match-maker to generate the Santa's, which were then emailed to each person. Presents were shipped or delivered using no-contact methods. Presents are opened on camera as they arrive, and predictions are made during the video. The Santa's will reveal themselves in a zoom call once all presents have been received. Use this time to be creative! Carpe Diem.

Recently, with the help and guidance of LHS Administration, Janell Swart, and the health department, we were able to safely gather the choir students, masked and distanced,
to record the music we had been working on for our annual Winter Festival Concert. It was so exciting to be able to showcase the students' hard work in some way. More videos to come. Check out this sample from the 328 A Cappella Group!

As we continue working through and living with the pandemic, we run into obstacles that we have to be prepared for. Mrs. Riggs and the actors from this year's fall play are no exception. The world premier of “Goddess of Tears” took place at Logan High School on November 20th.
While we are watching our friends and classmates become quarantined, the chance of an actor becoming quarantined rises. The show featured “zoom actors”, in which quarantined students were acting from home. In an email interview, Mrs. Riggs says, “We set up a screen, a projector, and a Chromebook, and actually had them in technical and dress rehearsals with them that way. Their sound was mic'd through the sound board, and they turned their mics and cameras on and off at home.” Congratulations to all the actors and thank you to Mrs. Riggs for your dedication, and determination during these times of uncertainty. This is a moment that will go down in history.

My first day of online learning went very well all of my teachers did a very good job at explaining what I needed to do. We also got to listen to a few students give a speech in public speaking and it seemed to go well. ~T.W.
Some positive things about remote learning are being able to get more sleep, and I like how the classes are short. This gives me more time to get my school work done. ~E.C.
The online meets went good, joining the calls were easy, not super difficult and most teachers made it as enjoyable as possible. ~C.B.
I think remote isn't as bad as I thought. We can still communicate with everyone. Also, classes are much faster which gives me more time in a day to do what I need to do at home to help my family and I get extra time to get school work done. ~R.W.
Online has allowed me time to recoup and prioritize being at home for the first half of my day rather than being gone all day makes my stress levels lower. ~Z.V.

Many of us get so wrapped up in the rush of life. Working, going to school full time, while also trying to make time for friends, family, and necessities. Life as you know it could come to a screeching halt at any time in these times of uncertainty. This crash may send you a rush of anxiety, as you are left with nothing to to... or so it seems. Quarantine has given me time to do the things that make me happy, like scrap-booking, writing, and decorating for Christmas. I am looking at quarantine, as a time granted to me to regain my grip on life, and breathe. There is always good within the bad, so long as you look at it in the right light.

The Logan High School Choirs opened the doors to the 1,000 seat theatre on October 11th for the first time since the pandemic hit. Operating on 15% capacity, as well as offering a virtual performance through a Facebook Live stream, the concert kicked off with an inspiring set from The Chamber Singers, followed by a more light-hearted set from the 328 A Capella group, and closing with a powerful performance from combined choirs, consisting of Women's Chorale, 328, The Chamber Singers, as well as the two Symphonic Choirs. The choirs theme this year, "Be Here", is focusing on living in the moment, trying to blur out all the chaos of the world, and truly be here. Stay tuned for details about the Winter Fest performance, this is something you won't want to miss.

The Chieftain Closet, located in room 408, was designed by Mrs. Erica Brown, as a way for students in need to have the option to discretely retrieve clothing, shoes, and bags, donated by other students. Student workers also work on the closet, organizing and sorting through the donated items. Know that items have been cleaned after being donated, and the closet is mindful of regulations set in place due to the Coronavirus pandemic. If you have clothes that you want to donate to The Chieftain Closet, please take them to room 408. If you are in need of new clothes, please feel free to visit The Chieftain Closet. There is no shame in a need for clothing.

Although we won't be having homecoming as we know it, there will still be an event, and its important to take advantage of the opportunities we are given during times of uncertainty, as every event could potentially be the last event you attend in the 2020-21 school year. Our staff members are working hard to plan events that are safe for us to attend, and we have been taking that for granted. In addition, should the Octoberfest turn out a success, we could be paving the way for a new tradition at Logan High School. Each event you partake in during this pandemic, is a moment that you are involved in the making of history. We are breaking boundaries and setting standards here at Logan High School.
Octoberfest will provide an assortment of food trucks, live music from classmates and staff members alike, and you are permitted to bring furniture to sit in your designated parking spot, in which two people are allowed to be in at the same time. Cornhole will also be provided. Buy your tickets and don't miss out!

Research shows that gathering together without social distancing and masks can cause the virus to spread easily among party goers. We miss each other and want to have fun but we need to wait. There are many benefits that come from listening to choral music. Studies show that while listening to choral music, your nerves become more calm and anxiety rates diminish. For many people, music is used as a type of concentration, and can help you get work done. I personally prefer gospel groups and singers such as Sunday Service Choir, or Jennifer Hudson. If you can't concentrate, and its an appropriate time, pop an AirPod in and get workin'!
