2026 Summer Creative Writing Camp
During the second week of June, LHSD staff and students came together to write together at the beautiful downtown Logan Theater. For three days, students and staff brainstormed, wrote, and shared their writing alongside one another. Our sessions were led by current staff members AND a former LHSD grad! Karen Bergreen started us off with her centering yoga session alongside Cathy Lee, Haley DeVore grounded us in setting, Will Mutters made our characters come alive, Kaleigh Cox gave our stories a purpose through shape and multimedia, and Allie Barrell fearlessly led us on a journey through history in identifying events and characters to write about.
On the third day of camp, writers pulled out a photo that represented something they found beautiful. It could be a person, an object, a place, anything that embodied beauty. The writing that arose from these photos will form an exhibit at the 2026 Appalachian Literary Arts & Storytelling Festival taking place at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio from October 3-4. Details will be shared as the event nears.
