Battle at the Bluff will feature a Prelims and Finals contest format, with an option for bands to participate in prelims for commentary only. The event is limited to the first 25 bands to register and will also include an exhibition performance by the La Grange Mighty Leopard Band.
All participating bands will be classified according to their UIL classification. Each ensemble will be allotted a total of 15 minutes for field entry, performance, and exit. Immediately following their prelim performance, bands will be escorted to an indoor video clinic to review and receive feedback on their show.
Class Champions and the next four highest-scoring bands at large will make up the eight bands advancing to Finals. Finals performance order will be determined by draw, and all finalists will be evaluated on a clean slate.
Classes 1A - 4A will compete for Class Rankings & Caption Awards. Bands may perform for ratings with the opportunity to advance to finals OR elect to perform for comments only.
Every performing 1A-4A band will participate in a clinic following their preliminary performance. This clinic will be led by one of our clinicians, who will review the band’s performance alongside the group in the big band hall while providing real-time feedback and practical suggestions for improvement.
Adjudication will be modeled after the UIL Region marching band format, with the addition of separate color guard and percussion adjudication.
We will utilize Competition Suite for all scoring, with adjudicator commentary available after each performance and digital recaps delivered immediately following the awards ceremonies.
