Hello Kindergarten Parents,

This week is full of pumpkin activities, and we are ending our week with our Pumpkin Patch Day.  You can start bringing in those pumpkins. We are building our Pumpkin Patch here on campus in the garden. Students may dress like farmers on Pumpkin Patch Day. Jeans, plaid shirts, straw hats, boots, pigtails, braids, etc. No costumes, please.

Make-up Picture Day: Make-up pictures will be on Thursday, October 22nd from 10:30-12:15. 

🎃 Kindergarten Pumpkin Patch Day: Friday, October 23rd

Join us for our annual Kindergarten Pumpkin Patch Day on the playground right before October Break! Here is everything you need to know:

Bringing Pumpkins: Students can drop off a pumpkin starting Monday, October 19th.

Extra Pumpkins: If you are able to donate an extra pumpkin for a classmate in need and for our pumpkin carving rotation, donations are always greatly appreciated!

Dress Code: Students are invited to dress like farmers (jeans, plaid shirts, straw hats, boots, pigtails, braids, etc.). Please, no Halloween costumes. (See picture above).

Taking Them Home: Students will decorate their pumpkins during the event and bring them home on Friday, October 23rd.

Our homeroom parents will reach out soon with details on how you can volunteer to help make this day special!

🌟 Kindergarten News & Updates!

On another note, after fall break, we will be learning about Veterans Day and about the men and women who have been serving in our military, reflecting on the importance of this day and saying Thank You to those who protect our precious freedoms in this country.  Here are some details about Friday and our celebration.

We will be celebrating this Tuesday, November 10th, with an assembly, a parade, and other classroom activities.

For our parade, students need to bring in an empty 8-ounce water bottle (see picture above).

Parents, you are welcome to join us for the morning and participate in our parade.

There will be a car decorating contest. If you want to join in the car decorating contest, we would love to have you participate. Decorate your cars, and then as we march out to the sidewalk, you will drive around the block and past all the students on the sidewalk as we are lined up around the school.  

You are welcome to join us in class after the parade and participate in our classroom celebration until the end of the morning.

Students are encouraged to wear anything red, white, and blue on this day.  It does not need to be a uniform as long as it is red, white, and blue. I hope you have fun with this.  

 📢 Kindergarten Lunch & Food Safety Reminders

Please take a moment to review two important updates regarding Kindergarten lunchtime procedures:

Lunch Schedule: Kindergarten lunch ends promptly at 11:50 AM daily. Parents and guardians are not permitted to feed their children during this time. Encouraging students to eat independently helps them build essential self-help skills and keeps our schedule running smoothly.

Food Handling Policy: Per Grossmont food handling rules and safety guidelines, no food may be removed from the lunch area or taken home. All meals and snacks must be consumed during the designated lunch period.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our cafeteria safe, clean, and organized for all our young learners!  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the main office.

Library Book Reminder 📚

Return books in their bags every Thursday. Note: Students must bring their library bag to check out a new book each week. Thank you for partnering with us at home!

📁 Folders and Homework: 

Thank you for getting the folders back on Friday.  It helps my parent volunteers collect the completed homework and put new homework in the folders.  Each week, I send home reading books.  These are for you to keep at home and read often.  Please put them in a Ziploc bag and read them as often as possible. Reading practice is key to success in school.   Studies have found that the more a child reads and is read to, the greater their success in school.  Also, make sure to practice reading the sight words in the homework packet. Learning these words is important to the overall reading success for your child.  I am now including our weekly Scholastic Readers in your child's folders.  We cover these topics digitally in class, but they are also great resources for you to read with your child at home.

Read Together: Keep reading daily with your child.

Activity Sheet: Complete the activities on the home sheet and check off each one as you finish.

Enjoy the Process: Have fun witnessing the learning process through your child's eyes!

⭐ Character Education: October is Failure Leads to Success

In October, we will be talking about how Failure Leads to Success and how that helps us have Courage, Hope, and Grit.   In Kindergarten, we like to say, "I can do it if I try again". At home, you can help us by allowing your child to struggle through some hard things.  It might be a simple struggle like putting on their jacket,  a challenge for many of my students. As it turns out, we may understand things better in the long run when we can learn from our mistakes. Making mistakes and engaging in self-reflection can strengthen critical thinking skills. This skill not only helps students perform better in class, but also helps them make well-advised choices in all areas of their lives.
