"It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light." -Aristotle
Course Overview
Academy is a dedicated time for students to stay organized, complete homework and projects, study for upcoming exams, and get caught up on their academic responsibilities. The goal of Academy is to provide a focused and supportive environment where students can use their time effectively, ask for help when needed, and build the habits necessary to become more independent and successful learners.
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
About me
I am entering my 16th year in education, including the past five years at Literacy First Charter Schools. I earned my B.A. in History from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by an M.A. in Social Science from the University of Chicago. I later completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through the University of Buckingham, which also qualified me to teach in the United Kingdom.
I was born and raised in San Diego, and my parents are originally from Mexico. I am fluent in both English and Spanish and am currently working on learning a third language, German. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy playing soccer, exercising, trying new foods and restaurants, and traveling with my wife.
History and education have long been two of my greatest interests, and I enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with my students. I am continually looking for ways to grow as an educator, strengthen my teaching practice, and create a classroom environment that helps students become more confident, capable, and independent learners.
