Class Syllabus


MISSION

The ministry of our Christian school is to lead young people to Christ and to turn them in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). With this in mind, we are committed to guiding children with a well-balanced education emphasizing character building and leadership skills. Conduct and Discipline Procedures

We will be using the Clip it Behavior chart.  Demerits will be issued for larger offenses such as and not limited to hitting, exposure or destruction of school property . Demerit may be issued for repetitive behavior issues that will be left to the teacher’s judgement.


Homework Procedures

Homework is located on the school website on Mrs. Pace's page. I will have all updates ready by the end of my planning period on Monday. If we are out of school I will have it up by the end of my planning period the first day back to school. If there is a reason to make a change to the webpage I will send out an email and let parents know that I have made a change.

Most homework is graded based on accountability. I focus on teaching responsibility so that when they reach first grade responsibility will not be such a struggle. If an assignment is going to be graded based on accuracy it will be stated on the website along with the assignment. These assignments are created so that parents can help with a concept a child is struggling with or it adds creativity to the classroom making children more eager to learn.

Homework will be given and expected to be turned in the next day for full credit.  Grade reductions are: one day late-25% off, 2 days late-50% off, 3 or more days late- will result in a 0% for the assignment.

If a child is missing a homework assignment it will be posted onto Gradelink where it is the responsibility of the parents to check often to keep up with children’s progress. I encourage each family to set up alerts through gradelink to receive quick updates on all grades as you desire.

All paper homework assignments should be placed in purple folders on the homework side of folders to keep down on confusion. This will allow papers to be pulled quickly and keep us from searching for assignments that could cause a zero in Gradelink.

If the homework assignment is to bring in items that will not fit in purple folders we will ask the child for the item. If there is confusion we will communicate with you through email.

Written homework will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Seatwork that is not completed in class does not count as homework and will be expected to be completed by the following day if not completed during seatwork time at school.


Extra Credit

There will be no extra credit given out in my classroom. However, if a child is struggling with a concept then I might send home an extra homework assignment to help the child get the concept. It will be recorded as a grade and other children in class might not have a grade recorded in that assignment. I however do not just give out extra assignments to raise grades. Grades are used to evaluate progress and I do not support misleading grades by adding extra credit.


Seatwork procedure

Seatwork will be graded and returned to you at least once a week. I try to grade and send home daily. Seatwork is graded so you can see the progress of your child and know how to help your child be successful. Each seatwork page assigned will be accounted for and graded.

Seatwork is a great way to review for tests. All parents are encouraged to use these papers as a tool to help your child be successful in each subject. Please use these worksheets as “Study Guides” for tests.

If seatwork is not completed during the allotted time in class it will be sent home through the purple folder and will need to be completed and returned the following school day.


Assessments

Student assessments include classwork, tests, projects and class participation.  Information will be provided on Google Classroom that can be reviewed for weekly tests.  For more immediate assessment, we will use quick responses during classroom learning.  Quick responses include things such as thumbs up/down, showing answers using personal letter flashcards, writing answers on whiteboards and games (such as having each student match a picture with the correct vowel sound that is heard in the picture). 


Parent Expectations

Parents are expected and encouraged to be fully involved in the classroom, homework and activities associated with classroom learning, events and homework. The teacher is very willing to teach and nurture in education and biblical aspects of the child. It takes both parent and teacher to encourage a child to be all that God created them to be. With this being said, I expect a parent to communicate with me about any issue that causes a concern and work alongside of me in all areas to make the child successful. I expect parents to communicate with me before communicating with the office or other parents in the school. This also follows biblical teaching.


Grading policy

We grade daily. Seatwork is given a grade based on what is turned in. I grade each seatwork paper so it reinforces learning at home and allows me to monitor your child’s progress throughout the year. It also allows parents to see what your child is struggling with and how to help them. All seatwork papers should be reviewed with your child so that improvement happens on tests that are taken weekly. Graded work will be sent home on the keep at home side of their folders.


No Name on Paper

Children who do not put their name on their papers will receive 10% off of that paper. I want all children to not leave my classroom still struggling with this procedure. It is a simple way of teaching children responsibility. It also keeps down on the chaos of knowing who turned in work.

 

Testing

I encourage parents to go over all graded work with children daily and correct them. If you do this children should do well on test that are given.  Your child will not be allowed to retake a test due to them not getting the score they desire.


Absent

If your child is going to be absent I will send home make up work the next day.

If your child is absent they will get as many days to make up the work as they were absent plus one. If you have been made aware of a test before they were absent then they will take the test right along with the other students when they come back.


Restroom

We have 4 scheduled class restroom breaks scheduled for the school day. This should be enough for all students. However, if your child needs to go to the restroom all they have to do is raise their hand and ask a teacher and they will be permitted to go.
