Quick Note from 5th Grade

Hopefully everyone had a great Fall Break. It looks like true Fall weather has finally arrived.  Please make sure your child dresses accordingly, including a light jacket for recess.  Monday will mark the end of our first quarter.  

Here are a few things we will be focusing on next week:

Science: We have been exploring changes in matter, what mixtures are, and how we can separate them.  We will spend a day practicing each method and then doing an assessment.

Math: We will wrap up our second chapter on multiplication and then move on to a chapter on Geometry. This chapter will come with some new math vocabulary.  Don't forget to keep practicing multiplication facts! They are so important, and several students are still struggling in this area.

Social Studies: I loved watching the students create their 3D models of the Native American tribe homes and learning more about early life in America. Check out our website for pictures.  We have started Chapter 2 on Exploration.

LA-Writing: We have been learning about poetry.  The students tried their hand at writing a type of poem called the Diamante (for diamond shape). This week we will write a different type of poem called a senses poem. 

Reading: We have been enjoying a read-aloud story called Andy Buckram’s Tin Men
