2021-2022 was my first year of teaching in the Little Ferry Public Schools, but I am not new to town! I grew up in Little Ferry and am a proud graduate of Memorial School. Fun Facts: I played the part of Glinda the Good Witch in the 8th grade production of "The Wizard of Oz" and graduated as Class Valedictorian. I come from a family of teachers. My mother is a retired P.E. teacher, and she taught in Little Ferry for several years.
I attended Ridgefield Park Jr/Sr High School, where I was involved in many clubs and sports including the NJ Math Team, Volleyball, Softball, and Track & Field. I then studied at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology (minor in Education). I continued at the Rutgers' Graduate School of Education and earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in technology and mathematics. I am certified to teach Elementary School K-5, with a Mathematics Specialization for Grades 5-8.
I began my teaching career at Patrick M. Villano Elementary School in Emerson, NJ. I taught 5th grade Reading, Writing and Social Studies for 3 years. After that, I taught 6th grade Math for 6 years in the same school. During this time, I got married, bought a house with my husband Dennis in Little Ferry, and we had my daughter Kylie in 2012. Fun Fact: My maiden name is Potts, which is short and sweet! My married name is Stanisljevic, which is impossible to pronounce! That is why I cut off the second half for teaching!
In 2015, I had my son, Emmett. At that point, I decided to take a break from teaching to raise my children. During my years at home, I was involved in the community as a T-Ball Coach, Soccer Coach, Class Parent, and Girl Scout Troop leader. Some of my hobbies are reading, playing Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Switch, and hiking with my family. However, most of my free time is spent cheering on my children at their sporting events. In the Spring of 2022, we got a puppy, named Cookie. She is an adorable and energetic little dog who keeps us all on our toes!
I am thrilled to be back teaching at Memorial School this year! I will be helping in the 5th and 6th grade Math classes as well as seeing students for Math Interventions in Grades 5-8. Additionally, you will see me working around the school as part of the Little Ferry PTA - I am Secretary and Webmaster this year. I look forward to getting to know my students and their families as the school year progresses!
