Class Overview
In our Multi-Categorical Special Education classroom, we focus on individualized learning that supports each student’s strengths, needs, and IEP goals. Our classroom is a safe, structured, and encouraging space where students work on academic skills, communication, behavior, and social-emotional development.
Hi! My name is Sydney Thompson, and I’m so excited to be your child’s Special Education teacher this year. This is my second year as a certified Special Education teacher, and I truly feel like I have the best job in the world. I’m incredibly passionate about working with students with special needs and love helping them learn, grow, and build confidence. One of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to know each child and learning what makes them special and unique.
I graduated from Virginia Tech—Go Hokies!—and I now live right here in Chapin, where I feel lucky to be part of such a supportive and close-knit community. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for eight years, and we have two wonderful boys: Reid, who is 6, and Lane, who is 4. We’re a big sports and outdoor-loving family, and I enjoy all things athletic, whether it’s watching, playing, or cheering from the sidelines.
I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves a classroom where they feel safe, encouraged, and valued. I’m especially passionate about helping students meet their IEP goals and celebrating their progress, big and small, every step of the way. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter, and growth, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things your children will accomplish!
