Hello all! The kids call me, Mrs. Bishop, but I hope you will call me, Nicole. I am thankful to be working with you and your child this year, to help their English language skills flourish. Here is a little bit about me...
My wonderful husband Michael and I have been married for 28 years. Elizabeth, our youngest, will be a freshman at USC. Our oldest, Kathryn, is a senior education major at USC. This is my 30th year in education. I have my masters in Language and Literacy, have held National Board Certification for over 20 years, have served as a literacy coach in grades K-5, have also served as a graduate adjunct professor teaching literacy courses for teachers, have taught undergrads from USC in their reading and writing courses, and have been a district PD facilitator for over 20 years. I am currently a teacher of multilingual learners in grades K-6. I am passionate about providing equity and access for all learners, and believe that all children have gifts and talents to be nurtured and developed.
I love being a teacher because I truly love spending my time with kids of all ages. My goal is for every child to feel loved just as they are, to feel safe, encouraged and inspired as a learner and as a human. As Mister Rogers says, “I like you just the way you are.” I want EVERY CHILD to see my eyes light up every morning, or afternoon when they walk in, I want them to learn what makes them extraordinary and that all things are possible. I want them to have agency and use their voice as learners and global citizens. I plan to help your child grow in every way possible this year as a reader, writer, listener and speaker of English. Your child will certainly teach me, maybe even more.
