Thorsen's Classes

About Me:

My name Genise Thorsen, and I teach English 2 and English 3 here at Irmo. I grew up in Raleigh, NC.  I received my bachelors degree in Communications and have a Masters degree in Education from NC State.

I have been teaching for 14 years.   I have taught mostly English 2 (World Lit), but have also taught English 3 (American Lit) English 4 (Brit Lit), Speech and Debate, Gods and Goddesses, and Knights and Castles.  My philosophy is that if you work hard, you will be rewarded.  I am here to help and encourage you to work hard and be successful.  

I love teaching, and I love interacting with and learning from my students.  I hope to share my passion for literature with any student who walks into my room. The idea of escaping reality for a few brief moments through the world of literature is something everyone should be able to do.  ​

​Here are a few things about me that you will eventually find out.  I have the most beautiful niece and nephew and another one on the way!  You will hear way to much about them.  I have a kitten and you will hear about her often as well!  One of my favorite stories is Peter Pan.  Along those same lines, my favorite movie is Hook.  Lemon desserts are my favorite. I am a HUGE hockey fan (Go Canes!!!). Also, I do not drink coffee (weird, I know), but I drink tea (preferably chai).
